  1. And Galveston’s got herself a 17 foot seawall.  It’s George Bush’s fault.

    I saw a Discovery Channel show (taking a break from The History Channel*) about retro-fitting the Golden Gate Bridge to withstand an 8.5 quake.  They asked the chief engineer the obvious question.  She shook her head, “If it’s bigger than that, the Bridge will be the least of our problems.”

  2. One of the “computer model” scenarios for this storm is that it may roughly follow a course up I-45 to the DFW region, then “bounce” off a high pressure area in Oklahoma, then roughly follow I-35 back down towards San Antonio and Austin, as a tropical storm.
    What a mess…
