  1. Here’s a really long term survival strategy: annex Canada.

As the world heats up, the tropical zones will become desert, the temperate zones will become tropical, and the sub-arctic zones will become temperate. That means that the boggy and frozen great white north will become farmland.

I would expect geothermal activity to increase as well. Assuming Yellowstone doesn’t erupt - which would be Game Over for the whole damn planet - a very large part of Canada rests on the Laurentian Shield, which is the oldest and most stable piece of ground in the world. So that means less volcanoes and earthquakes than just about everywhere else.

In the meantime, get the scientists working on crops that will grow well in extreme conditions.

I still feel that human contribution to glowball warming is miniscule, but at least this time around we know what’s coming and can adapt ahead of time. The cold and damp that ended the Middle Ages lead to mass starvation because people wouldn’t adapt to new crops.

  2. And just think: I almost bought an SUV yesterday (a Saturn VUE)...if it weren’t for 1/2 a molar cracking and falling out about two hours later, I’d be “contributing” to this global warming bullshit!
    Crown on molar come Monday.

  3. What is this, a new Inquisition?

Nancy, if you don’t like hot places, look out for hell!

    LOL

  4. Yeah, did you hear about the weather babe at WC, who wants the Meterological society (whatever) to take away creditials from local weather people who don’t believe in, extoll and/or support ‘Glowball’ warming? Combine that with Al’bore’Gore (who was [thankgooodness] blasted in Britain for refusing to discuss with a scientist his cockamaymee theory) insistance that an ‘Inconvient (Un)Truth’ be shown in classrooms. And I can’t grasp how the MAJORITY of Americans are not standing up screaming about indoctrination. You know damn well how they screed on and on when conservatives try something like this.

But alas, they let evolution get into school and creation and God removed. So I guess this crap is inevitable. . .such a shame to see America go down the drain.

  5. Skip, your point is spot on. Global climate change has, is and will occur on earth, and is seemingly happening on Mars, too. Greenhouse gasses might blanket earth and keep heat in, OR they might reflect heat away. That was the idea in the 70’s for “The Coming Ice Age!” If we do not anticipate the long term effects of change, but focus on non-causes and a false belief that eliminating those non-causes will bring permanent stability, then we will run into catastrophe.

The largest volume greenhouse gas is water vapor, by far. CO2, methane and SO2 are smaller in volume combined. A cloudy winter’s day is usually warmer than a blue sky winter’s day. Yet, clouds reflect sunlight and lead to cooling in the summer. Things are often relative.

We infer what temperatures and climate were like before the 1850’s when we developed reliably accurate instruments to measure climate. If we use the same inference system and apply it to the years since the 1850’s we get a very modest, as in miniscule, temperature rise in line with past fluctuations. Accurate instruments have given us a completely different point of view, to the point where anything before the 1850’s is nearly useless in detail.

Finally, suppression of dissent is a tool of the left in the west. We must be on guard and do the right thing regardless of their blithering and repression.

  6. Let’s see, what wastes of energy that they can take away from us?

Old cars, yeah, lets ban all vehicles from the road built before say, 2004. Like they do in Japan where all cars older than 4 years are banned and must be removed (most are shipped to places like the Philippines). How many people can afford to buy a new car? I can’t, but what a boon to the car makers and the unions. The rest of us? Walk or take the bus.

Old houses, another big one! They can use eminent domain and Kelo to force all of us with old homes into apartments. The mega gilded cages they’ve always wanted to stick us in (so they don’t have to see or smell us any more).

You got any problems with this? Well, there are too many people already. You can be dispensed with. So can I.

Everyone needs to start to prepare for the day when we either stand up and die on our feet or prepare to be slaughtered on our knees.
