  1. Off topic:  Site’s layout/formatting seems to have done a major faceplant in the past few hours…

  2. Given the agenda of the so called educators then the tests are most unlikely to be without consequences, perhaps trying to weed out the good teachers and hold back the bright kids , follow the votes!

  3. Behind Common Core is a indoctrination, data gathering behemoth that will make the NSA spying look tame. The (eventual) goal is state control over the children from 2 to 22 - and the tests/curriculum are so damn idiotic that they are making kids cry.

The Obama Administration conned States into accepting this by using The Race to the Top funding - and now that States/Parents are seeing what a 1984 (the book/movie) nightmare of totalitarianism gone wild that this crap really is, it’s not faring well at all.

Yes, we (kids, parents) never know the results of the tests - but believe me - when it matters (and most especially when it showed the school how screwed up they could appear if known publicly) back in our days - they did make a difference. Having a sister and a son who went off the ‘chart’ as to their scores - The schools did re-act almost immediately.

Wish they even bothered to acknowledge the ‘smart’ kids now - now it’s up to parents to pay through the nose to find a school or program that will do a smart kid justice.

That is what dumbing down education in America has brought us - Indoctrination, control, data mining and catering to and encouraging failure and mediocrity.

  4. If it’s Commonunitst Core, keeps your kids away from it.  If Teachers unions and the Feds love something, it can only be evil.  Under Commonunist Core no one will be allowed to excel, so the testing is to identify the brightest kids so they can be numbed and dumbed down.  Equal outcomes for everyone!!

  5. Is that what these are for? To find the smart kids - the square pegs - and then slam them around until they fit in round holes? Because there was never any money for stuff for advanced kids in those days either ... it’s always been “spend it all on the underachievers and screw the smart ones”. Nothing changes there.

And while I agree that Commie Core is pure crap, my point is that I took standardized tests when I was in school ... 1965 onwards? Waay before Common Core.

  6. Here’s how bad education has become - when my first son was in 6th grade (1985) - small town TX - through a custody brouhaha with the ex - he was required to take a IQ test (you don’t want to know why) - within a day of the test - his ENTIRE schedule for the year - was changed into more advanced classes. When my last two were in 8th grade (1999 & 2002) both were offered the test and entry into the International Baccalaureate Program (it was called something different back then) - a two year (Jr & Sr years) program for those who were smarter than the average bear. The problem is that only 1 HS in an area is allowed to offer it. We only had one car in 2000 and the school would NOT provide transportation to the HS that offered it. Imagine my disgust and anger when I discovered that a bus ran from the HS my kids were at every single day both to and from the HS offering the IBP - for vocational students - but would not allow the IBP students on board.

Same even in Middle School for my son - all the ‘enrichment’ and AP programs - were after school. In 4th grade (1993) he did a paper on a Physics website - for a class where 90% didn’t even know what a computer was (small town KY). Much less what Physics was.

Tell me - when Vocational and Special Ed - is part of the daily School curriculum from K-12 - why the gifted and smart kids have to jump through hoops for a proper education?

And this Common Core crap is just making it worse.
