I"m sure that the UN will be right on top of this and hold a meeting in Geneva next week to plan the meeting to coordinate the conference on deciding where to meet to establish a committee to coordinate the assistance that might be proffered to the U.S. when they can decide how to get the money out of the U.S. to pay for it all and, of course, criticise the U.S. for not doing enough and doing it wrong and without the proper coordination from the U.N..
Got all that?
The EUros will do likewise. We can expect the French carrier de Gaulle to be towed into Mobile bay any month now to coordinate activities there.
Does it surprise anyone that there will be no foreign aid or help? As I told my wife the other evening, I did not expect to see a massive foreign outpouring of funds, people, supplies, etc. However, those who we have helped before should be willing to OFFER assistance, even if all they can do is send 10 people to help move muck and mud. Ungrateful bastards. The next time something happens elsewhere I don’t see the need to lift a finger. We will of course, because that is what this country does, but I feel no obligation to help those who would turn their backs when the situation is reversed.
I heard through the grapevine that Canada was going to send all their available police and half their Air Force plus their largest Naval cruiser.
I figure that would translate to one disabled mountie,(retired)two flying squirrels and one leaky canoe.
Hey, the newspaper today says that over 50 countries have pledged aid. Isn’t that great? Only problem is, I read a couple weeks ago that less than half of the aid pledged for the Indonesian tsunami relief has been delivered.
