  1. At least all EU countries are united in not being united.

Bunch of little socialist countries that will never have much power again.

  2. Unlike the Skipper, I think this will NOT be the end of that…

  3. Here’s the kicker. Nine countries have ratified the EU constitution. All well and good, right?

NO! Three countries have submitted the treaty for ratification via referendum. TWO of them have REJECTED IT, and those two are original EU members?

What should that tell you? It tells me there is still hope left, because even the common citizenry of Europe can See BS and know that it’s the liberal elites who want this treaty to pass.

  4. I can’t speak with any erudition of the EU’s constitution, but one would think the immigration of Muslims into these countries would behoove all to come up with a solution to that one massive problem.  France and the Netherlands have huge problems with this.  What is the good of remaining ‘unique’ in whatever nationalistic sense if your country is turning into an Islamic haven.  A little foresight is in order, it seems.  Or do they have that quality over there?  Bush could help them out with that.

  5. I’ll have to go along with Christopher. It ain’t dead by any means.

They’ll pour some sauce on it and try to make it more palatable for resubmission.

They’ll probably try to keep it away from referenda and have the respective parliaments pass it as most of the previous countries who signed on already did.

What they really should do if they want to have it generally accepted is start over with an eye to making a very simple document laying out the proposed structure of their government and guaranteeing individual rights and rights of the various states. Sort of like our Constitution.

There is no need to burden a Constitution with items like specifications of champagne, prosciutto or Toblerone candy. That can come later.

KISS = Keep It Simple, Stupid.

  6. One pundit likened the status of the EU ConstrictionConstitution to that Monty Python skit about the dead parrot. There will be those that insist that it isn’t really dead.

  7. I bet they try to nail its feet to the perch. Just watch.  cool smile

  8. I agree with Christopher.  This can be only a temporary setback.  We shall hear more soon.

  9. I am also in agreement with Christopher. The EU elites will not allow the will of the people to get in the way of their “US of Europe” plan. My feeling is they will water it down a bit and have the individual parliaments ratify it.

  10. Europe still view themselves of citizens of their own countries, with unique languages and values and cultures.  Europeans don’t see themselves as Europeans, they still see themselves as French or German or Dutch or Danish or Swedes, much in the same way pre-Civil War Americans only saw themselves as Virginians, Georgians, or New Yorkers.

  11. I agree that there are those elite Europeons whose vision for a united europe will continue for a very long time. But considering the arrogance and current nationalist tone of France, it will be a tough row to hoe to re-package, re-sell, and re-vote.  One way I can foresee that happening in the near term is for a crisis to afflict the entire continent. Look for more anti-US retoric and actions in the next decade. Considering the rate of Islamization of the Europe look for an unholy alliance of the Euro-elites and “moderate” Muslems.
