Dollar surge will not stop America feeling the effects of a global crunch.

  1. I can’t claim to understand any of this either, but if I had to answer someone’s “"What should I invest in during this mess?” question, I’d say gold and silver. They have intrinsic value, rather than value based on the economic performance of such and such market, and both (mainly silver) are in demand in the electronics industry. As long as video games, cell phones and computers are selling, there’ll be a market to sell silver.
Another approach is to think in terms of “species LCDs”. In other words, what does EVERYONE need? Not just want, but CANNOT go without? Food, water, shelter, energy, healthcare. You’d think all those would be pretty safe, cos there will always be a demand for those as long as there are people. But so far as I can tell, a lot of major investors and speculators came to that same conclusion back before you and I were born and have been playing those markets ever since. Which means you have to take your best guess on how much their gaming the market will affect your investment. It looks to me as if better minds than yours or mine have tried and failed at that guessing game, but it also looks as if worse minds than yours or mine have succeeded in it as well. I guess this is a case of how lucky you feel.
I dunno, I don’t play the markets. I still stand by what my father taught me when I was a kid: “The secret to being a successful gambler is to never bet anything you can’t afford to lose.” That has kept me out of this game all my life. And yes, I see it as, in essence, an enormous poker game.
But then, I also can’t argue with something I’ve seen as a headline logo over at Michelle Malkin’s site as well:

“BLUFFING: A pair of balls beats everything.”
