hard choices

  1. The sovereignty of a given nation outweighs all of the moral ‘boo-hooing’ the U.N. and other “nanny-world” practitioners care to put forth.

If the people are dissatisfied with their leadership, that leadership should (and will) be overthrown, trampled and destroyed.  And rightly so, in my opinion.

Until the legitimate government authorizes outsiders to enter their country, to do so under any guise, is invasion, pure and simple, and opens the door to invasions on the poorest of pretexts around the world.

I know that the ultraliberals will gasp that “we must think of the children” and so on, but it is the parents of those children who must be moved to do what must be done to improve their lot.  Great tribulation can stimulate great deeds.

Perhaps this is that “last straw” that will break the Myanmar juntas back.

  2. I agree look at other spots of the World where the UN/compassionate ones have attempted to help the people - theft, cheat, and murder and mayhem - all in the name of protecting their positions.

To a lesser degree - America is headed down the same crappy road - I do not understand how people can’t see the danger of Government control on a Nation - but no they all clamor for ‘Universal’ healthcare as the be all and end all. . .

Obviously no one has ever considered who is paying for this universal utopia. And it always ends up being the little person who has a job and is usually hardworking. Because they are the only productive part of the equation - and end up paying for it.

But yes, I agree - let ‘em suffer - maybe then they will rise up and overturn the crappy system they are living under. It certainly can’t get any worse.

  3. How about a “Berlin airdrop” to get food to people and bypass the athorities? You don’t even have to land. Just kick it out.

  4. I had a look at Myanmar… What isn’t under water is mountainous, and what’s mountainous and under water is covered by some SERIOUS jungle.

Besides, how is violating their airspace and dropping anything any different from an invasion?

  5. IMO that the junta didn’t warn their citizens of the approaching storm but did warn the elite and military, smacks of a military decision to cleanse/reduce the population. The confiscation of aid bears this out.

  6. I will NEVER call Burma by that name.

  7. The government on the spot will not allow independent aid efforts, nor verification that the aid materials are being used FOR AID, correct? Therefore, corpses by the thousands, possibly by the tens of thousands, will be floating down the creeks and rivers to the coast, right?
Given that, to me the only rational answer would be for its neighbors to basically declare a state of quarantine until the available evidence shows that the bodies have been buried, and that someone coming out of the area isn’t effectively a walking plague pit. And in this case, ‘quarantine’ would also include those countries that still have embassies/consulates there closing them.

You can say ‘sovereignty’ all you want, and I’ll agree with you pretty much every time. But somewhere down the line, someone paid for those 38 tons of biscuits, etc. It is not unreasonable, nor a slap to anyone’s sovereignty, for the person who spent the money on something to be able to verify that he is getting what he paid for. If you allow no provision for that, you have no right to bitch if no one will spend the money anymore.
