  1. We think we won that war, Skipper. The returns continue to come in and it’s not looking that good any more, at least as far as who benefits from that victory. Oh well, the immediate problem was resolved at the time. That’s what counts. Perhaps prosperity will keep those folks from trying to take over the world again. Not the Canadians, of course, they’re just ... uh ... being Canadian. They’ll let someone else take over and then try to tell them what to do. Sorta like the phrench. Bi-lingualism has its consequences, eh? This is not their grandfather’s Canada.

  2. I’m German and I will tell you with all honesty that we are not going to take over the world anytime soon, trust me.  But if we did we would remain in control for about a thousand years and start our global conquest in France first the next time because those bozos are a bunch of wimps.  Then we would head for Canada because like StinKerr says, they are wimps too.  We will revamp der Woof’sLayer for Z-Woof-Pack HQ probably, ask Uncle Woof.  Well, my Great, Great.....Grandfather was German, so it’s in my DNA.

Germany needs a good World War because unemployment there is over 10%.

In 1942 Germany had a 0% unemployment rate.

  3. Telephone for you, Z Woof. Line 2.

It’s Jacques ChIraq. I think he wants to surrender. He’ll looking for work a job, no doubt.

German unemployment rate up? What about all those guest workers they imported years ago? What was that about? Oh, their economy tanked when the socialists took over?

Is anyone seeing a pattern here?

    God help us all…

  7. Yep, I remember that the Canadians were on those beaches too. That’s why I said “This is not their grandfather’s Canada.” While they were major participants in WW1 and 2, things are very different now.

Good ideas, especially good designs, are often retained and copied. The machine tool company I once worked for “nicked” an idea from BMW motorcycles for their spindle drive. They put bearings on the ends of the gearteeth to ensure that, on gearshifting, the gears meshed every time. It worked.

  8. I recall very few Jeep-like vehicles in VNam 1965-66. Mostly I saw armored vehicles. But we we were far north and had very few roads inland; supplies had to be flown in. I never saw a habitation larger than a village. Our jeeps were helicopters.

I understand the Jeep was analagous to the DC3 airplane; not fast, not sexy, but very forgiving and reliable.
