You need an excuse to go shooting?
No, but it helps motivate me more. Working up a whole new load from scratch can be tedious, even with good software tools and load manuals and all the right stuff.
2000 fps and weighing 433grains. That would really put some lead in your pencil. What’s the recoil like though? I experimented with some .223 cast bullets. They were ok with gas checks and lower velocities around 200fps but the powder choice was tricky. I ended up using XMP5744 in a .223 Remington. It was an interesting project but cooking your own projectiles is a bit of a pain in the rear!
Guns have never really called to me. I learned how to shoot, learned why good judgement is vital in someone who’s armed, etc… but owning a gun and shooting it never was more than ‘meh’ for me. However I gotta confess that I’m finding all the physics and engineering going into slug design to be fascinating as hell.
