  1. You non-Hoosier pussies don’t know what real weather skull is.

We lucked out on this one.  Our exit bridge was flooded and our power out for a bit.

  2. Shit. Kinda early to be talking about tornado season (officially starts in April if I’m not mistaken) Course that didn’t mean squat this year as Elizabethtown KY had tornado touchdowns this year on New Years Day

Our house in Kentucky is an underground house designed by my dad, so I’m not really worried about my folks other than the fact that both my mom and their ever so spoiled 115lb Doberman HATE lightning. (My dad and I, on the other hand, practically wait till the damn storm is at our front door before we go back in the house and continue our storm watch from there)

  3. We were hit by those storms last night.
I couldn’t sleep so I pulled open the shade above the couch a little bit and watched.
What an awesome lightshow it was.
    Besides,more rain=fewer wasps

  4. You said a mouthful, Severa. I spoke to soon; unless we’ve resumed above-ground nuke testing, that’s a storm coming in from the West. We live on a limestone quarry-- I cannot drive a birdfeeder stake 6 inches into my yard—but we hammered a grave-sized tornado shelter into the floor of our utility closet. Cozy, but alive.

    “Tornado Season”??

The weather does funny things to our brains; it’s 72 degrees and Ruth left for work asking if she should take her coat!? HELLO? March 13th—Indiana?

Ruth tells the story of a superstitious old man and his hound—both were afraid of storms. The dog would snuggle up next to him shivering, “Git away from me you derned idjit, ya’ draw lightnin’!”

  8. Yes, this weather is weird to say the least. We sit a half block from the school where the weather siren is located - and no one in our house heard it last week when it ‘accidentally’ went off. Not to worry - we have our own built in system - two psychotic animals who start the ‘find a safe place to hide’ frenzy as soon as the weather gets the least little bad. I’ve spent a small fortune on ‘medications’ to calm the beasts, the current one at least puts the dog to sleep in about 30 mintues.

As I said - at least we have an early warning system - too damn bad they have teeth and claws, as I usually bear the brunt of their ‘angst.’

I have two different flowers (I’m a gardening idiot - but the previous owner really set this place up great - anyway, I am still learning all the names of the stuff around here, although after just one summer I know I hate daylilies with a passion) already blooming. It is 60something right now - quite nice. But suppose to drop down to freezing in the next couple of days with possible snow by weeks end.

Not that I paid attention to weather at all (other than the ‘beloved’ snow reports) when a kid - but other than central coast CA [early morning fog, burning off by noon, possible afternoon showers with a high of 70 - 24/7/365] I have noticed that most of the midwest has this strange weather - TX known for the joke of ‘only place you can use your heat and ac in the same day’ and KY was ‘don’t like the weather . . .wait a while’. Seems to be that here in OH too.

Oh well, now I live just around the corner from where I grew up - watched tonados pass left, right and all around - never was damaged. Only things (read: not living beings) I’ll cry over is the peach tree and asperagus patch - waiting years to have more is too much for me. Besides we need a bigger bathroom and I need a new computer and stove and refrigerator and and and… [just joking, I’d also be very worried for all my books and of course the pictures - especially the ones of my deceased father that I’ve just recently acquired].

  9. What’s with the Damnasty International ad on the right hand side again question

    Connect the dots, hell, machinegun

Avast, me mateys, I’ll send in some more twisters, snake  wink :rulez:

  10. I guess the “connect the dots” was a part of the blog ad watch “feature"… This time, it’s “My Dogs Are Smarter” (than the DNC, at least) rasberry

Oh, back to the weather, nothing much happening around here in the slightly thawed out frozen wastelands of NE.

I hope that BMEWS HQ has a good secure underground bunker, just in case more ‘nados come your way

  11. it is WARM here today, and spring humidity has set in full force again....

i have the air conditioner on to defray the humidity

i had the furnace on a total of 4 times this winter…

overcast, with rain i am sure by this evening

Oink? how is it there? any serious flooding where you are?

    heart

  12. We’ve had a shitload of rain, flood warnings, some wind gusts into the 40’s, some lightning, and a bunch of tornado watches—not warnings.  This is the first house we had built—we’re 60+ feet above Deer Creek & in zero danger of flooding. No basement, naturally.

One interesting effect of living on top of water-filled limestone is that lightning strikes nearby trip our breakers.  The earth under us is an excellent conductor of electricity. You’re in no extra danger walking on the ground during a storm, not that I take walks during thunderstorms.

  13. Tonight
    Windy
    Lo: 31°
Much colder. Windy. Mostly cloudy. Lows in the lower 30s. West winds 15 to 30 mph. Gusts up to 45 mph Decreasing to 35 mph after midnight.

A bit of a change from my 70+ degrees T-shirt weather of today, eh wot?

Posted by Oink    United States   03/13/2006  at  08:06 PM

  14. It was 63 when I left for class around 9a-it’s a 4 mile walk each way.
It was upper 40’s when I left at around 2.
I only had my sweatshirt jacket with me-so it did wonders for my walking speed.

  17. Not that kind of “personal protection”, numb-nuts! I’m talking ‘bout the kind with nine rounds of .45 ACP inside.

    cool smirk

Posted by The Skipper    United States   03/14/2006  at  02:22 AM

  18. Yes sir,
I understood that, I have multiple “personal protective items” of my own.  I was just making a joke about your choice of words - that & knowing the sense of humor this bunch has - I was expecting some joke much sooner !  Those that lead are the greatest target for humor.

Oh, and Skipper, just because I live under the “g” in the word Fargo on your above map..... the temperature has warmed up enough here so that they’re just chilly, not numb any longer wink

Posted by iteki    United States   03/14/2006  at  09:38 AM

  19. Iteki, you’re welcome to Fargo and you can have my share too. I spent four glorious years West of you at Minot AFB and best I recall at this time of year the snow was still piled up 12 feet deep beside the roads. My nuts stayed numb until July - which is the only month it never snowed.

Posted by The Skipper    United States   03/14/2006  at  10:06 AM

  20. Thanks Cat, I knew you’d come through !

Cap’n - it’s not that bad, well maybe Minot is.  Miles & miles of...miles & miles.  Nothing to see & nothing to get in the way of seeing it.  The only thing between Minot & the North Pole is a barb wire fence ... & it’s down.  OK - my condolences for having to live in Minot, think of it as a sacrifice (a BIG one) of military duty.

For the record, I don’t live in Fargo, I live right about where the g in Fargo is on your map - on the MN side.  We’ve had it soft up here this year - we’ve had the balmy winter temps comperable to Illinois, Indiana, even Colorado.  Snow, but no long stretches of sub zero weather, and I’d take that over a tornado any time.

    Have a great day !
