  1. Bullshit. Elf ‘n Safety NEVER gets one right.

Ok, Mr. Gardner was being a bit of a dummy here. But if you look closely at the picture, you can see he has on a hard hat and ear protection. And while his body position is NOT smart, he can’t actually fall from there. The ladder is “wider than the trunk” yeah, but it’s also tucked in at the base of the branch stub under his belly. not going anywhere.

Personally, I’d be using a more robust ladder to top out the standing trunk. He isn’t pruning the tree, he’s cutting it down. So I’d say, if you can’t fell it and then cut it into short bits, work from below and cut away from you at chest level.

Was this guy going to saw his hands off? No. Was he going to fall? No. So what was the right thing to do? Tell the grasser neighbor to sod off.

  2. Drew this is how socialism works. Bring in new bullshit laws so you can employ more bullshit enforcers (who since they work for government will vote for the socialists) more tax and more control freakery. That wouldn’t be my recommended approach to tree surgery but its none of my business what he gets up too. If he kills himself, tough. They use the same horseshit to justify seat belt laws and the wearing of crash helmets. If people are stupid enough to drive without a belt or ride a bike wih no lid that’s their business. Leave us alone you control freak, bed wetting shitbags.

  3. > Would you report this guy to the authorities for working without safety gear and
    > violating several safety regs.?

Certainly not.  That wouldn’t be neighborly.

  4. says a lot about the state of journalism that they report this as good, he knows what he is doing and is safe enough but this is the country that the police stopped a father diving in to get his son out of a sinking car (would you let a dumb copper too scared to do it himself stop you saving your childs life??)

  5. This guy did nothing wrong.  If he did something wrong, he would have ended up hurt.  But since he did not get hurt, we have a successful project completed.

Just because something looks dangerous for one person, does not mean so.  I think high divers are crazy but they know what they are doing.  Hell, half of the sports being competed in the olympics looks gosh darn crazy and dangerouse to me, so they should all be stopped less they hurt themselves.

This is freedom and that man has the freedom to do what he likes.  The only one that should judge him on right or wrong is darwin, mother nature, and murphy.  If he does something stupid, he will be punished for sure.

This is how it starts.  A hundred years ago, this would have been known as rugged individualism and hard work ethics.  Hell, America was built on men doing the impossible with little or nothing.  It was men being men and forging ahead to build the greatest country in the world.  Now, it looks kinda dangerous, we need to stop that.

How long before it is deemed too dangerous to stand next to a tree and scrape the bark with a dull butterknife and heavy fines and govt nanny BS steps in to put a stop to this crazyness?  One mans danger is another man’s job.

Let men do manly stuff.  If they do it wrong, they will get what they deserve and learn from their mistakes or be stopped from doing it permanently.

I would rather die doing what I want then grow old doing nothing because someone told me not to cuz it was too dangerous.

And as for the nosy neighbor, this guy ought to visit him and show his appreciation for turning him in.  It’s for his own good dontcha know.
