  1. Seeing as how I live deep in the heart of Texas, I see stories like this on a regular basis. The most recent one was just a few days ago.

    Gun-toting granny sends burglar running

A burglary suspect on the city’s east side learned that even little old ladies may be packing heat.

San Antonio police said an 89-year-old woman woke early Thursday morning to somebody attempting to break through the front door of her home in the 400 block of Como. Startled, she quickly fetched her .38 caliber handgun.

She saw the burglar’s flashlight inside the house and fired one shot toward the light, police said, which sent the suspect running off into the night.

The woman told police she did not get a good description of the suspect because it was too dark inside the house.

Police said they don’t believe the suspect was hit because there was no blood and the bullet was found lodged in a wall inside the home.

I just wish she was a better shot.

  3. Ouch,

    Georgia granny,57-year-old

    - so that’s how I’m going to be known in the papers (should anything of ‘news’ worthy happen to me) ‘granny’. So when did I grow so old and not realize it?

Speaking of .38’s - and we weren’t.  I have found some bullets and the receipt, not to mention my Dad’s lifetime NRA card but alas, have not found the .38 yet. I still have many boxes to go through - and remain ever hopeful for something such as the .38 or even my Mom’s .22 revolver - or even some money - but alas, thus far, it is interesting personal papers, junk and lots and lots of books. I did find an eventual home for all the unwanted books - half-priced books wasn’t keen on even the ones we took over there (and they were the best of what we had here) - and the good news is that they will even come and get them. Now I just have to find the time to go through the boxes. Of course it would help that if it would get above freezing so that I could work out in the garage.

  5. It doesn’t say how many rounds she fired, but she hit one perp at least once. So overall I’d guess she did as least as well as the NYC cops who seem to waste 50-100 rounds per perp. And all we know about perp #2 is that he kept running ... wounded or not.
