  2. Mars has 38% of Earth’s gravity.  That canyon would flatten considerable if it was transported to our planet.

    I bet that lower gravity is going to be the big obstacle to colonization: holding onto an atmosphere, human physiology.  It would be nice if Mars and Venus traded places.

  5. Remember in one of the RINGWORLD sequels, humans had focused some sort of beam on a Kzin world, cutting a gorge 20 miles or so deep?  That impressed even the Kzin, and ended that particular war.

    Valles Marineris is the largest known canyon in the solar system.
