You aren’t joking. I’ve received my letter from the VA stating that my info may be compromised.
Skipper you forgot to mention all the morons out there (who have even less computer skills than I do) who scream yell and throw hissy fits until the company IT security guy/gal cuts most of the security off their systems. I bristle sometime when I can’t hear/view some of the things I get emailed or on websites I visit. But I’ve lost everything twice and killed my hard drive once from the dangerous crap that people - who could change the world for the better but rather chose to destroy - send out. And so many of these ‘computer’ people have no clue about spyware and so on (ok my hubby knows all those technical names of the nasty stuff out there).
Privacy - is a joke - the NSA program is nothing compared to credit card companies and their partners in crime ‘collection’ agencies, the ACLU (who has full database on every contributor), the DNC (same as the ACLU - not to mention the dirt they go after on every opponent), and all Sony products ‘calling home’ and so on and so on and so on.
We have sent a letter requesting that the VA/military stop using SSNs for identification/benefit purposes - that might be the first step to bringing this crap to an end. Notice how everyone ‘requires’ SSN for identification. And no one screams about it - the use hasn’t stopped and/or prevented anything. Heck even illegals have found a way (and an industry) to get around the SSN. . .I believe it is just a two prong scam - one gets everything on everyone into the government hands and second ‘creates’ a need for ‘protection’/security computer programs.
Once again, the definition of mental illness is doing the same thing over and over and over again and expecting a different result.
