  1. Kudos to which ever (or both) parent(s) who taught her the actions and giving her the courage to defend herself instead of teaching her to be afraid of guns and being willing to become a victim.

Saw a true crime show last week - the woman’s (about 18 or so) last pictures were at a convenience store - she did not yell out - No I won’t give you a ride, she had been talking on her cell to her boyfriend - No call back to him or 911 - and when he approached her outside the store (again on video) - no running back into the store screaming about the guy harassing her, again no call to 911 or even to her boyfriend.

Training, no INDOCTRINATING people to just not do a damn thing for themselves, to not do a damn thing to defend themselves or to not even think for themselves - so much so that they are stupid enough to be slaughtered rather than DO SOMETHING.

  2. The kid did the right thing, but she has my sympathy. She’s going to need some heavy duty therapy for quite some time once the shock wears off.

What a terrible world it is where young girls must take time off from dreaming about Justin Beiber to practice their Mozambique drills ... but better that they do than don’t. 2 to the body, 1 to the head, assess your target (ie lather, rinse, repeat as necessary)

One part of the news story does not make sense (granted I didn’t take time to watch the video) - they had the bathroom closet set up as a kind of safe room, with reinforced locks. Great, though probably very small. And the kid had a gun and a phone with her, great. But she didn’t LOCK the door? “When she saw the knob turning she fired.” I don’t get it. OTOH, if the perp was able to break down the front door, a bathroom closet door doesn’t offer much extra protection whatsoever.

  3. Wasn’t able to watch the video (hubby has maga security on our computers) but did catch a relevant side bar story (and shows how pathetic parents and police are in Durant OK) - that our ‘homeless and searching for food’ (and tell me how a posting to Craigslist is PROOF he is homeless and hungry?) - that our scum bag previously picked up a mentally disabled 17 yr old girl from a school and dropped her off the NEXT DAY and doesn’t go to jail because she said ‘she went willingly?”

WTF has gone wrong with America? We have no morals, no rule of law and most sadly NO COMMON SENSE anymore.

Not sure I agree with you that she will need therapy - I think that she will get so many pats on the back for being ‘one tough lil b*tch’ (don’t forget this is OK, not NYC) that it will boost her (ever important to liberals) self-esteem. She stood up for herself - and won.

Can’t get much better than that.

  4. Wardmom, The video was really audio of course. As I listened to her 911 call, what I heard was a deeply frightened young girl and panic stricken for sure.  I’m not one for therapy in every case of this sort or indeed for much of what I see as new age clap trap. But really, this girl may need someone besides mom. I only say that based on what I heard on the clip.
But you are right in that many will be cheering her up and show support which she certainly deserves.  Thank heaven she had that weapon to hand. It could have gone so sadly wrong.

    Drew sure nailed it with

What a terrible world it is where young girls must take time off from dreaming about Justin Beiber to practice their Mozambique drills

WTF has gone wrong with America? We have no morals, no rule of law and most sadly NO COMMON SENSE anymore. How sadly true. Over here Wardmom, they talk about bad ppl being named and shamed, unmindful of the fact that criminals too often aren’t the sort of folks who feel shame. The photos I see so often of thugs, including young women, show people smugly looking into the camera outside court, mugging it up for their friends.  And bragging to friends about their latest misdeed. I do understand that quite often people will fake their shame or embarrassment with false bravado, rather then show themselves in poor light. But the difference between say my mother’s generation and the one I am seeing today, is that the ones I see so often really are not at all shamed or embarrassed. Soft justice, if I may misuse that word, and the civil rights industry is what has led us here.
