Seeing as Orac is the name of a snotty-assed computer from Blake’s 7, it’s a fitting name too!
Orac takes apart this “Dr. B” who feels that drinking water cures all illnesses. Well sure, because if you don’t drink any water, just about anything will kill you. Like dehydration, for example. C’mon, this “Dr. B” is so whack that his motto is “you are not sick you are thirsty”.
I think Orac fullfills a need; he speaks a bit of common sense to the niche market of “natural health freaks” who buy into anything “holistic”, especially if they’re told that the big pharmas are trying to suppress this age-old natural cure. So all you aging Earth Children, listen up!
Yes and somehow I get besieged by the docs who believe if you stop eating sugar, white flour and [] you will live forever. Like I care.
Nothing can cure everything, nothing can cause everything (paging the Goracle) - moderation folks.
If you research something - you tend to get too caught up in it. That is why one should leave the lab, get married, have kids and take a vacay once in while.
Anything is dangerous, hurtful in excess or used inappropriately.
And Drew - I think you hit on the biggest cause of all this polarization, glowball warning screeds and devisive aspect of America - the Earth children, hippies, anti-war mongers and media had their only hayday in the late 60s thru early 70s - and they are attempting to recreate their glory days - while dragging America backward and down.
You know I read a local op-ed who said our tax rates should be at the 1970s level - so that we could ‘accomplish’ something. [He was raging on President Bush’s ‘tax cuts for the rich’ lie]
In reality there is only one thing that is inevitable - Death - and this bunch needs to face reality soon.
#1,
And he’s a fan of Blake’s 7 too.
#3,
Finding human assisted climate change plausible isn’t moonbattery. What’s moonbattery is thinking we can do something about it without giving up what we have. Or thinking other people can give stuff up without you making a sacrifice. Keep in mind that whatever we do, as the world advances overall technologically and the world’s population grows, greenhouse gas production will increase as well. Now keep in mind that we are talking about a volume of inside 4 miles of the surface where the weather takes place. That’s over 2 billion (with a “b") cubic miles of air. A rise of average global temperature of as little as 1 degree fahrenheit still means a shitload of ergs gets retained within the system longer than it otherwise would.
What it means is, climate and weather have more, well, potential.
The problem really is not stopping it, much less reversing it. The problem is adapting to the changes. Expect a more open architecture, a lot more greenery, and public misters to help make things cooler.
You know if folks ESPECIALLY MOONBAT IDIOTS would just promote certain things with a little bit of balance...we’d all benefit.
For example water. You really do need to drink about 3 or 4 large glasses of water a day to maintain a nice balance but it isn’t the end of the world if you are short a day or two.
Simple things. Eat an apple and a banana every day, have a glass of milk or a piece of cheese. Eat meat at least a couple of times a week. Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches are not a bad thing. Drinking enough water and crunchy PB&J on Honey Nut and Oat, Whole Wheat bread gave me the best colonoscopy I’ve had (7 family members dead and my Dad with a bag from colon cancer - this is no joke for me).
Have a drink every day. I’m working on 24 ounces of Seven and Seven right now.
Shoot a gun from time to time. Go fishing.
Relax - this is the most important thing next to thanking your creator.
Thank God for your life. Thank God for the United States. Remember those gave their lives so you could be free.
God Bless You All.
