"SplatMaster crashing machine”.
Now that a Funny way to describe a childhood toy. Good One.
Kudos to HF on pulling off a save landing.
Wow, 72 already.
Now we know that Dinosaurs can fly.
Gawd! Oh, the memories!
I owned a PT-19 when I was about 10-12(?) years old. LOVED the thing! It was indestructible, with those rubber band mounts for the wing & engine.
I did learn how to fly control-line with it - well enough that I went on to build many bigger balsa-wood control-line models, combat (flying wing) models, and ultimately several radio-controlled planes. I continued flying them until I hit collage.
Oh, yes - the oil, the smokey greasy exhaust, the SMELL! I still love the smell of nitro-methane & alcohol & castor oil in the morning - or evening - or any time! I think I fell in love with Funny Car & Rail Car drag-racing for the same reason - the absolutely delicious smell of N-M & alcohol.
Those Cox control line aircraft were superb. When we were kids our aunt paid for us to visit the US. In those days the early 70’s transatlantic travel was big money. I spent all the money I had on a Cox P51 Mustang an aircraft that I really loved, but left it in the back of my uncle’s Chevy Caprice on a hot Iowa summers day. Consequently when we came back it was a molten wreck.....talk about heartbroken.....my uncle bless him bought a replacement but it wasn’t a Cox and it was some inferior manufacturer and Mitsubishi Zero. What could I do?
Any landing you walk away from is a good landing. Ford didn’t walk away, but still not bad.
Ford seems to be doing ok although he may have some fresh scars to show. I ran across a recent picture of him carrying his own luggage and wearing short sleeves. He’s healthy. It looks like he gets lots of exercise and lots of protein.
Now I just hope the airplane is repairable. It’s a sweet little thing and they’re not building any new ones.
