  1. Don’t feel too bad about missing out on some of the nuance in Goldberg’s book. I have been a subscriber to National Review since the early 70’s, forty years and more, and felt the same way when I read his last one ‘Liberal Fascism.’ Goldberg can be very humorous at times, usually is in columns and on NRO, but I think he also writes to impress rather than entertain or inform when it comes to books he would like to see on the NYT bestseller list.  Probably a good choice PC wise.

National Review I think is becoming increasingly irrelevant.  The editors used to rail against the Rockefeller Republicans, now they have become them.  The booting of John Derbyshire a couple of weeks ago just the latest, clearest, example showing the trend.  When or if they lose Mark Steyn they lose me too.  And I agree with you about Coulter, I used to read her but she’s ridden the same pony for so long that I’m feeling saddle sore.

Sorry to hear about the bowling league. Better luck next year.

  2. Hey, 3rd place is a pretty good showing, especially for new teams. I’m happy. And we’ll win Summer League, probably.

Derbyshire is gone? I didn’t know. But I agree with your comment completely. A little too Park Avenue Insider sometimes. I read some book on the History of Modern Conservative Thought or some such title, and it was an insider’s guide to who was zooming who at NR for decades. Terrible book, written just for really old insiders. Screw that. It was as bad as John Bolton’s book, and as much as I love me that Mustache o’ Truth, he can’t write a book for shizzle. One of the most unreadable things I’ve ever tried to force my way through.
