  1. I believe that Fred is God.  Or at least God’s bastard great uncle or something.  Read his columns and don’t forget his archives!  Sometimes I swear he actually tells the truth.

  2. About spit up my lunch with the comment about shooting at shotgun shell primers with a BB gun. I did that very thing. I had hundreds of plastic army men, good guys and bad. I and a buddy of mine would line up the opposing forces in some dirt breast works that we would build, and leave the bad guys exposed a little. Then I’d steal some of my pop’s 12 gage, low brass dove/quail loads and they would serve as the good guy’s artillery. Point the shells at the bad guys (up close), stand back fifty feet and shoot the primer with a BB gun. Good Lord that was fun.
I look back at it today, and it dawns on me that my pop never said a word about the missing shells. But for sure and certain if my mother would have caught me doing that, my pop would have beat my butt purple.
I look back at some of the shit I and my brothers and buddies did and am damn surprised that I’m still alive. But Damn it was fun!

  3. Never thought of that one!  I did, however, at the age of 4 or 5 - beat .22 shells on the concrete with a croquette mallet crazy  Same story, no compression, just a bang....I know, I don’t know how I lived through some of the stuff we pulled either!!  Oh, and that black & blue butt?  I knew enough to do it at Grampa’s farm where I could get away with it...sorta
