foul language in public is not shocking. no. but it’s still offensive.

  1. When the subject of swearing comes up, my kids will remind me, “Dad, we hear that kind of language at school all day long.”

    I remind them that although I am quite capable of talking that way, I choose not to around them because I respect them.

    Then there’s that whole “offending the part of your audience that you don’t know” thing, if you do spout off in public with a few invectives.

    So I’d just like to suggest that the judge in this story might just be suffering from a minor case of cranial-rectal inversion when he suggests that swearing can no longer be thought of as offensive.  Yes, yes it can.
