When the subject of swearing comes up, my kids will remind me, “Dad, we hear that kind of language at school all day long.”
I remind them that although I am quite capable of talking that way, I choose not to around them because I respect them.
Then there’s that whole “offending the part of your audience that you don’t know” thing, if you do spout off in public with a few invectives.
So I’d just like to suggest that the judge in this story might just be suffering from a minor case of cranial-rectal inversion when he suggests that swearing can no longer be thought of as offensive. Yes, yes it can.
