  1. I watched the documentary on this and they said that a little shield clip that protects the bomb from electrical charge when the plane is started had blown off from the stiff wind out at sea.  When they pulled up to charge the plane for start, the current went through the plane and straight to the bomb, which took off from receiving a electrical charge.  So the error lies with the few that did not check this precaution before ignition.  This is what their(The Navy) study showed, and it was put on TV.  What a waste of lives!!!

  2. Yes, I think VibraciaX cut the documentary into 5 parts and posted it. It really is worth watching. The old style safety pins were just cotter pins, not the new style which has a catch groove machined into it. And the bomb loading crews must have wired things up before they were supposed to. These days the bomb and missile wires aren’t hooked up until the plane is at the JBD, ready to launch.
