You know science is in trouble when liberals and conservatives are split on an issue of fact. There’s no such arguments on E=MC2, bridge building or airplane design.
I’ll blame the liberals on the AGW issue. But both sides would be happy if we developed a practical method of nuclear fusion electrical generation and eliminated the need for fossil fuel.
P.S. Also the almost incalculable benefit of letting the OPEC countries alone to live in their own shithole countries, without our money. The Saudis could work out their own problems without anyone caring.
I have noticed the psychotic aspect of this whole situation - Fake Science but calling those against - anti-science?!? Man made CO2 is what is destroying ‘Mother’ but do you forget that CO2 is what plant life needs to live and then converts to H2O (basic science)?!? And what alternatives are they pushing Solar (1939 - even I know if ‘greedy’ capitalists could have made a buck with it, or it was even remotely viable - in the intervening 70 years - it would have taken off)?!? They screed on about the ‘evil’ ME control of the oil - but refuse to let anyone get into their own oil prospects/possibilities - I wonder why? And of course most of the alternatives to fossil fuel are dirty, useless or will run out even faster than fossil fuel.
But what gets me is the simple arrogance - to either deny the God aspect (as if we are more than God) and could destroy his creation and/or that we are even more than their beloved big bang - and could in a mere 200 years destroy something that has been around for billions of years. The shear utter narcissistic arrogance of such a proposition is beyond belief.
And finally - the aspect that makes me the most personally angry - that Gore, DiCaprio and et al - who scream for the stopping of this, the cutting of that and the forced into usage of crappy, dangerous light bulbs and worthless autos - while they live like kings - BITE ME. You first - lead by example morons. Until then, as I said BITE ME.
Sadly - given the duplicitous spineless pols in just about every country, UN, EU etc - this crap will pass and we will begin the decent into End Times - Perhaps 2012 isn’t such a fantasy after all.
Speaking as a flat-earther I was amused by the claims from comrade Brownstainovich (Gordon Brown) that anyone who disagrees with the bogus claims made by crooks is to be labelled as a kook. They are becoming quite hysterical. I agree with Chops we should cut down on fossil fuels if for no other reason than it stops us sending money to despots who hate us.
I’m personally not convinced that oil is a fossil fuel.

Oil is a hydrocarbon. Hydrocarbons are detected quite frequently floating around in deep space.
Oil wells are now sunk well below the levels of rocks formed during the time life has been present on Earth.
