  2. I started reading them in high school, on the advice of my friend flapjawman. The entire series is a perfect example of:

    A: cowardice,

    B: Leading with your…huh…how can I say this politely…dick.

    What astounds me is that he never gets it cut off! Both the dick and the reputation for bravery.

  3. Not just historically accurate where serious history is concerned, (use of the term rock and roll interesting example in early days of slave trade) Macdonald Fraser was brilliant in his descriptions and plots.  And funny too.  His very exact description of the charge of the Light Brigade is the funniest thing I’d read in years. Not so much the charge itself. But being on a bouncing horse and suffering the curse of hemorrhoids while aboard that charging horse. That was a very funny scene.
    I’ve read the entire series.

  4. Quite correct peiper. Flashy’s bowels were rumbling throughout the Charge. I can almost read Kipling:

    Farting on the left;
    Farting on the right;
    The one-cheek sneak left and right!

    That alone might have stunned the Russian batteries! If it didn’t stun his own horse.
