  1. the family has started spinning it.. saying that the police were told the gun was a toy by others… while not a 9mm handgun, a pellet gun is not a toy and can cause harm or worse....

A water gun is a toy.. a cap gun is a toy… this was not a toy… I’m sure the cop will have a long court battle for doing what he had to do..I feel sorry for the cop that got caught up in a suicide by cop situation..

Heres the article talking about how the family said the police were told it was a toy..

  2. So the father “believed” it was not a .22 or .38 or whatever.  Did he have absolute proof?  And what if the “proof” was wrong and the kid shot someone?

The kid was stupid enough to do what he did and paid the price for it.  End of story.

  3. I wish the targets of lawsuits would turn around and file suits against those who bring this bullshit to court.

  5. It doesn’t say in this article, but wasn’t this boy threatening to kill himself by pointing this gun at his neck, etc?  That would leave me to believe that the gun could cause harm.  If nothing else, this boy certainly tried to convince the police it was real.  It wasn’t like he was running around playing bank robber on the playground and the police shot him.

This most certainly was an awful tragedy.  But, I think the police should always get at least the benefit of the doubt.  They should be accountable, etc, but give them benefit when there is doubt.  It is their life on the line…

  7. I would say tell the parents to go pound sand if they decide to file a suit.  In a way, it was their fault that he got killed in the first place.  If the parents had found out what the heck was going on in their son’s life, they could have gotten him the help he needed.  I was suicidal for a time, but my parents were involved every step of the way, and my mom also suffered from depression, so she was able to recognize the symptoms and get me help.  It’s sad how detached parents are getting from their children’s lives.  I personally believe that if parents would take the time to find out waht’s going on in their children’s lives, we would be hearing a lot less stories like this.
