Flip-Flop

  1. Nebraska voted more for President Bush than Texas.  So sometimes the Omaha World Herald is truthfull, as pictured above.

It’s all those SAC people who stayed in Omaha over the years.  I went to kindergarden in Omaha, ground zero, and yes we practiced getting under our desk if we saw a bright, white, light.  flag

  2. Former Senator Bob Kerrey (Democrat) said, “In Nebraska I’m a Liberal and in New York I’m a right-wing-nut case.”

Kerrey wrote President Bush’s book on reforming Social Security with Personal Savings Accounts (PSA) and is a Pro War Hawk in Iraq.  Lucky it was Liberal Kerry instead of Bob Kerrey in the last election or we may have a Democrat in the White House right now.  tongue

The Democrats always pick their biggest loser.  tune

  3. ...and sometimes they win. Thankfully, not since 1996.
That is why we must be especially vigilant, what with SHRILLARY making her right-leaning shrieks about defense...blah blah blah yadda yadda yadda…

  4. When Al Gore said, “If I’m elected I’ll cure your asthma too!”, I knew this wasn’t the “brightest bulb” in the pack.

It’s almost like Tom Delay is picking their nominations and rigging the elections.

Or maybe it’s Barbara Bush.  question

  5. Re: the cartoon. I’ve been waiting for the angry libs to start that meme. I’ve even tried to...er...encourage them to bloviate along those lines with some minor success.

It sure is hard to get them to commit to a solution to a problem like Iran or North Korea. It goes a long way to disabling their righteous indignation when someone else has the testicular fortitude to address the problem and they know it.

They somehow serve who only sit and bitch(?).

  6. I say we go to France first, this is the heart of the beast.

Let’s make the French be put under German rule one more time.  France is too small to be a country anyway.

  7. I don’t like the idea of opening another front on the GWoT. We have enough going on at the moment. Yeah, it is terrorism of the highest degree. Nuclear sabre rattling is the ultimate terror. We’ve both lived through it, OCM. The “duck and cover” and kiss your ass goodbye days.

Consider that North Korea and Iran are both developing nuclear weapons. This is not a case of “Atoms for Peace”. There is no peaceful purpose in either of these countries developing nukes.

I believe that we will have to deal with both situations in some way sooner or later. These fanatics are not going to go away by themselves.

Why do we have to do it? Because we are the highest profile target for both and nobody else will/can deal with it seriously. They just want to kick the can down the road and, in some cases, sell the very technology they say they want to limit. Picture any European country threatening anyone and try not to laugh.

We need to continue diplomatic pressure and the more countries we have on our side of the table the better, but I don’t have great hopes for either endeavor. Let’s hope I’m wrong.

We can encourage and support a popular uprising in Iran. That would be the best outcome there. Unfortunately that won’t work in North Korea. It’s too tightly controlled. Maybe there will be an upper mid-level military revolt there. Maybe I’ll also be overcome by a bevy of beautiful women who will clean my apartment and fulfill my every desire. I won’t bet on either event happening.

I don’t really want to “take on” anybody but I believe that these two countries will sooner or later face the world with that as the only solution.

Nuclear weapons have been around for sixty years now and have been tightly held in the hands of responsible governments. I don’t consider Iran or North Korea responsible.

On the plus side, I suppose, was the effect of India and Pakistan developing their nukes at the same time. I truly believe the contemplation of a nuclear exchange was what cooled off their latest hostilities. Neither one was willing to accept the consequences and showed some sanity.

Do you think Iran or North Korea would show that restraint? I don’t.

  8. I think we’ve already begun the process of taking care of Iran and N. Korea - quite some time ago.  The public just doesn’t know about it.  The Mossad knows it all for Iran; as well, our own agents are with them.  And China is going to take care of N. Korea because it doesn’t want to lose its economic interests with us.  The Israelis aren’t going to put up with crap from Iran.  They are just biding their time - with our covert blessings and help.  China may take a while, but it will act. Japan isn’t exactly going to play dead, either.  It may be we have little to do in the long run.

  9. You are right China will have the most pressure on the Koreans.

China this week is selling off state owned businesses so their economy is really important to them.

If they can “Privatize in China” we should have no problems in the US, except for our Democrats in Congress.  Maybe soon the Democrats won’t have enough seats to make a difference. cool smile

  10. Cat,

I can answer everything you said in one sentence:  No one wants to die.  Countries will align themselves with the winner - and there is NO way Iran comes out a winner in any scenario.  It has so much internal strife as it is, their own countrymen might rebel before the Israelis do what they do best.  That fanatic in N. Korea will end up like Arafat once his pseudo-sycophants realize real trouble is on the horizon.

China?  Capitalism wins.  Who needs friends like N. Korea who do nothing but bleed China with its refugees and simply for being a pain in the butt next door.

  11. OCM:  Yes it would be better if both parties did what was best for America and be on the same team.

Giving software to the Chinese for their missles to strike the United States would be an example of helping the other team.

What these politicians will do to get campaign contributions is amazing.
