I’ll have to take your word for it-being that I wasn’t a twinkle in my daddy’s eye yet.

  2. I had the pleasure of seeing Goldy McJohn or SteppenWolf gig with a Alan White (Yes) Michael Derosier, Roger Fischer and Steve Fossen (original Heart line-up) and a few Seattle local players this past Saturday.  Magic Carpet Ride rocked!

  4. GOD DAMN what a cool story!  It gave me chills.  I swear, people, not of our generation, have NO clue as to moments like that.  I laughed out loud at you guys in the band starting to dance your butts off.

I went to an Allman Brothers concert - one of five - and they played NON-STOP for about three hours, but they didn’t play ‘Whipping Post’.  They ended the show with three encores, still without playing ‘Whipping Post’.  The audience of 75,000 of your closest friends started chanting “Whipping Post, Whipping Post”!  There was silence and sheer darkness for a long time...long enough for us to shut up and start to get freaked, when suddenly, a super high-powered spotlight burst from the back of the auditorium and hit the 6’5” tall black guy who wore the white leather clothes with the dangling leather all over....  He was on some kind of crane device that shoved him up and out way into the crowd, and the second the light blew him up in all his glory, we heard the beginning licks of ‘Whipping Post’.  I swear, I have never been in a crowd that lost it so completely.  They played another 23 minutes.

I’m off to find some pot now.  Thank you.

  7. Great story Allan, you had to follow Steppenwolf, a tough act to follow. Colonel Butler sounds like the musical equivalent of Bear Bryant. I didn’t know that Alabama did that to the band too.

Phoenix was Duane still alive at the time of the concert? I saw them once while he was still alive. Hell of aguitar player…

I was a big Dead Head.

  8. Actually I can’t talk-being that my fav groups are-in no certain order:

    Steely Dan
    Crosby,Stills,Nash,and Young
    Doobies
    Stones
    Late Beatles

All these groups had MUSICAL ABILITY!!!
I was too young to enjoy them during their heyday-ex.the Beatles who broke up a year before I was born-but DAMN!
I can’t get enough of them now grin
