Fireman who beat up pregnant girlfriend escapes jail after judge praises his work . HUH?

I had a homicide involving a student fom Syracuse University (shooter) and a local guy (shootee). The student’s girlfriend had her ass grabbed at a bar on New Years Eve. He gets all pissy, goes home, grabs a shotgun, returns to the bar and confronts the ass grabber in the parking lot. The local guy steps in between them in an attempt to defuse the situation and receives a load of buckshot in the chest for his troubles.
We bag the shooter and it goes to trial. A grounder, no? This is easy, the kid is going away. The jury guiltifies him and the judge throws the book at him, right?
Wrong.
The judge, a useless piece of excrement wrapped in a black robe like a turd burrito, says the kid is too smart to go to jail and gives him probation for manslaughter first. Another case of judicial cranial anal inversion.

Perhaps there is a bomber crew that needs ordinance training somewhere?

Perhaps this judge is from the ‘domestic’ violence old school - ‘she should have left him’ thus it is all her fault.
