  1. Ya, since all the great actors died the western just doesnt have any gravitas for me anymore.Tom Cruise, brad pitt, mathew mccaunehae, charlie sheen, shaun penn,Puleeeze!
Besides,Kids these days are programmed to think the west was all evil anyway with the poor pityful indian folk killed off to make room for the railroads etc.So the demographic to profit from them is going away anyway.

  2. Best western by far is Lonesome Dove. It has everything and many great actors who can actually act. The musical score is execellant. This made for t.v. film won many emmys and is well worth investing some time to watch. Both Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones work so good together along with the supporting cast, amazing film.

  3. I am not a fan of Westerns - strange and considering that the first hubby went to every movie released (except cartoons and chick flicks)and it was all that was on Saturday mornings I am shocked that I have not seen it.

I am a fan of the Native American movies - talk about sleeper hits. It started with Three Warriors (Randy Quaid is in it) and then I moved to Silent Enemy. Not a word spoken (it is a silent movie) but a great story about honesty and doing the right thing. And then I stumbled onto Pow Wow Highway. Perhaps Gary Farmers best role. Great movie - but even the tag line doesn’t get it. Graham Greene has a bit part. Then he became the ‘go to’ Native for Hollyweird.

I have a number - from the obscure Sun, Moon, Feathers to the standard dish Song of Hiawatha & Dances with Wolves but I love the sweeping landscapes and the simple story with a moral type of movie.

It’s why I liked Bella so much - do the right thing, no matter what the cost - and everyone comes out better people.

I am amazed that with the first hubby I did not catch Tom Horn but as soon as the crazy days are over, I will try to rent it and take a look.

  4. Drew is this the film where McQueen gets into a fight with Gentleman Jim Corbett or some famous boxer of the era? This was after telling him he would have to stand on his mothers shoulders to kiss Geronimo’s ass!! A classic film, they don’t make ‘em like Steve McQueen anymore.

  5. Thanks, I am going to get that film, on a similar note the Shootist with John Wayne was excellent too, same sort of thing as he was near the end with cancer too. As for modern actors, they are strictly light beer, I have not heard of McQueens politics but John Wayne’s were right on, his run in with the commies was classic.

  6. Wardmom

Have you ever seen “Little Big Man” with Dustin Hoffman. If you like the Indian thing, this would be a must see. A western plus I’d say.
