  2. I know you are not going to like this - but take a deep breath and deal with it. I have had an hard relationship with my Mom - but I’d give anything for even a few more minutes. Now I was just informed my sister is in the hospital (possible stroke)- life is too short to be snippy with family - no matter how nasty they are to you. Rise above and be the better person - That way you will have no regrets when the end comes. And for us the living - wear the satin slip, the real jewelry and the Channel (ok taken from a woman’s pov) - don’t save it for a ‘special’ occasion - every day with the people you love is Special.

  3. Nah, everything went fine. Which was exactly how I said it would be. Not that anyone was going to listen to me.

Wardmama, you’ve got to understand how an Italian family works. The worrying, the drama, the stress. I mean, we got her back to the house, and there was her will on the table in the living room. Because she was going to die you see. When she announced that she was getting the surgery, it was immediately followed by “I want you girls to come over to the house and take my jewelry. And the china that was grandma’s. And figure out where you’ll put my TV in your house when I’m gone.” Oy!!

So we got to the hospital, having heard the day before that the surgery went fine without the slightest complication, and she’s sitting up in her chair. Looks fine, not even the least bit sallow. She’s up walking around. Great! Got her out without any issues, drove slowly back to the house, and then made her comfortable. No problems, no scenes, no drama. She and I get along fine too, so that’s not an issue. But it ate my entire day. No, I’m not complaining; it’s family, so you do what you have to do. But it was a long long day for me, mostly sitting around hour after hour. There really wasn’t anything for me to do, so I installed her new telephone system and cleaned the back porch, just to stave off boredom. Daughter #2 is staying over tonight, and will stop in Friday night. My wife will be spending the whole weekend with her. We’ve got the house set up so she can toodle around with her wheelie-walker, plenty of ready-to-eat food in the kitchen, and extra chairs and low divans placed strategically all over so that if she has to suddenly sit down she’ll never be more than a couple feet away from one. The house is spotless, she could go 2 weeks without doing any dishes or laundry or going grocery shopping. Don’t know what more we can do to make her recuperation easier. We looked into getting her a visiting nurse, but it really wasn’t necessary. Give her a week of lying around taking it easy, with just little walks around the house and no stairs, and she should be fine. And if she wants handi-handles in the bathroom, I can install them in a couple hours.

  4. My aunt had a hysterectomy recently, and a few hours later was chasing my cousin around the room and biting him on the arm (I saw the scar!) - demanding to be taken “out of this G-D nursing home!”

So don’t count on her being to invalid-y, Drew.

But you should go fishing, just in case. It’s the only way to be sure.
