It probably was.  Bureaucracy being what it is, the council probably shit all over the garbage crew’s boss (not because the crew was particularly wrong, but because council critters are lazy fucks and hate having to lift a finger to actually DO anything.) The crew’s boss then shit all over them because it’s expected, and he probably enjoys doing it.

The garbage crew then wanted payback on the original complainant, but had to do it within the letter of their working rules so they couldn’t be taken to task by management (I smell the putrid presence of the union grievance process and a “work to rule” mentality...)

Had Ms. Harper approached the garbage crew directly, smiled, and asked them politely to leave the bin at a certain location, they probably would have done it, and that would have been that.

    ...

On the other paw, these guys aren’t taking the high road either, and are just being petty assholes.

    Frankly, nobody to like here.

  2. It does has the unmistakable odour of union chip on their shoulder deadbeats. If it were me I would have just backed over the bins and let them pick up the crap. I expect Ms. Harper pays around £1200 in “council tax” every year part of which funds the collection. I would make sure she gets her monies worth.

  3. Too bad she didn’t have video of the dustmen collecting the bins and putting them there.

Yup, Lyndon has it right. Mount some brush bars to the front of her vehicle, then attack the blocking bins at ramming speed. Let the chips fall where they may. Be a nice neighbor, and tell folks what’s up ahead of time, so they can come rescue their own bins first. But any of them left in my way would be run over. Hire a couple thuggish “disaffected” youths to slit the sidewalls on the dustbin truck tires on a daily basis each time it happens. Put a brick through the windshield next if this continues. You want a war? Hell, you got one.

But yeah, it would have been better if she’d asked the dustmen directly. Perhaps she did, and they were rude, or threatening, or just didn’t speak English.

The best part of the whole thing is the BS from the local Council - “We will be ensuring that measures are taken to prevent this from happening again in the future.” Hey asswad - it’s been going on for a year now. The only prevention you can do at this point is fire the bastards.

  4. Is this what our educational system is going to bring us - 10 year olds working at figuring out how to ‘get back’ at everyone/anyone who complains about them?

I go for the alerting the neighbors - and then going for broke - maybe if the whole damn neighborhood complains the idiots in charge (and you are all right here, too damn lazy to do their jobs properly) will get up and do something about vengeful (a week or two would be making a point - a year, come on) children making life miserable for someone.

I hate garbage collection - but I hate it a lot less than I hated dragging our waste to a landfill - and seeing the birds, rats (and other rodents), bears and such digging through it - not to mention the smell. So I gladly put up with our guys.

  5. Hey - short break - we have a snake (biggest I’ve even seen - probably 4+ feet) entangled in the plastic bird netting that is the grape protection system. I discovered him yesterday at about 5 pm - he is still alive at 10:41 am. We are trying to figure out how to get him out - 1) without expending money, 2) without getting bitten - although he seems to be more flight than fight) and 3) preferably without cutting the heck out of the netting (which now seems impossible) however, since he was alive - I tried using the small shears we have out in the garden - no luck and the tree pruner (give me some distance please) - again no such luck. So I think I will sacrifice one of my forever knives (as they are brand new, I have two paring knives and I think that they might be sharp enough to do the cutting). Did I mention that it is pouring down rain? What fun.

Anyway - since my garbage collection guys seem to either just drop the bins where they are standing or launch them into the front grass - I have to wonder if this feud did not have a beginning before the bin on the doorstep?

I (being a very curious person) would like to have the whole story - as to maybe what happened before the bin on the step. There might be more than meets the eye here - and the bin people (while acting very immature) just might not have started it all.

  6. Good news - we rescued Sam Snake without doing horrid damage to the netting (which I now get to re-hang - Yeah) got pictures but damn, forgot to take out the yardstick for a size comparison. We found a snake repellent - a bit pricey $130 (which means it will have to wait until fall) but it works great at keeping those critters at bay.

I tell you holding his body while the hubby cut (just a good pair of Fiskers did the job) had my heart rate up in the 200 range - not something I want to do every day at all.

We set him lose in the back 40 which is probably where he came from since we have only cleared away about 10 feet from the back fence.

Oh joy - another job to do. Don’t imagine an estate or anything - we live in suburbia I think our whole lot is 70 X 120 - it is just that the back goes into a Nature Preserve so it looks much nicer than the view we have usually had in suburbia.
