  1. I’m surprised that Ed Stein actually did something negative about Churchill. Stein is no Ted Rall but he is still a leftist puck.

  2. I live in Littleton Colorado, a suburb of Denver.  Aside from this one panel cartoon, Ed Stein also does a 4-panel comic strip in the Rocky Mountain News called Denver Square.  It typifies the life of a Denver soccer mom, the emasculated dad and a total wuss for a teenage son living in Denver.  Ed’s unabashed leftist slant pits that wascally wepublican administration against this struggling family of Virtuous, Treehugging, Dirtmunching Druids.

His liberal bile makes my morning coffee taste like the cushion on Archie Bunker‘s favorite chair.  However, this is the first time I remember Ed having ANYTHING to say that doesn’t at least call republicans Marty, the Fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse.

Instead (and interestingly enough) it is his lame attempt to pretend that he doesn’t agree with everything Churchill said (the pseudo-Indian, not the late Great Prime Minister) that blows my socks way the hell off my feet.

And his furious back pedaling on this issue is blatantly obvious if you regularly see Denver Square in the morning (amid tepid pools of spit-out coffee).

As for Ward Churchill, I can’t believe the local Indian population even allows him to smoke American Spirit cigarettes, much less even grudgingly go along with his charade.

Ward Churchill deserves his Native American status like Elvis deserved his black belt.  A few kitschy moves onstage does not a Solid Gold dancer make.

Wake the &$@% up, Colorado.  FIRE HIM.  Do not fire him for his inalienable right to make a fool of himself.  He just did that to get famous, and any idiot can do that.  But fire him for incompetence, false credentials and lying on his application by claiming to be Native American just to get the job.

He knows full well that everyone has a right to free speech.  What he doesn’t seem to know is that he ALSO has the responsibility to accept the consequences for what he says.

  3. Bravo Riggs, Bravo. Very well said on all counts.

  4. Second the motion, and I’ll add this.  The Constitution guarantees us free speech.  It does NOT guarantee us a FORUM--free or otherwise.

  5. Thank you both for your kind comments.  I appreciate them very much.

    TRUE STORY:
I once wrote ‘go F%#$ Yourselves’ in the memo of a check I wrote out for a parking ticket.  Imagine my (total lack of) surprise when I received a summons to appear at the county courthouse to explain why I should not be held in contempt of court.  The reason I wasn’t too surprised is because I was feeling pretty damn contemptuous.

For lack of a better analogy, I got caught throwing rocks at the King’s carriage.  It was petty of me, but I felt a lot better.  That is, before I got reamed by county court justice James Kimmel. He gave me a verbal SMACKDOWN, the likes of which aren’t normally seen unless you’re a fan of Mimi on the Drew Carey Show.

I redressed my grievances to my local government.  For my troubles, Judge Kimmel said he could put me in jail for ten days.  And if I would have opened my mouth, I have no doubt that he would have.  So I shut up and took it.  I just ended up being embarrassed in front of all the miscreants in the courtroom that day.  But that’s all it really called for.  I didn’t even have to pay court costs.  I just had to rewrite the check.

Tannenberg, you are absolutely right.  The Constitution does guarantee us free speech, but not a forum for it.  I was just lucky(?) enough to be afforded one.

Churchill is barking up the wrong tree in his argument about freedom of his speech, because (much to the dismay of fruitcakes like Churchill), the kicker is the FIRST WORD of the First Amendment:

    Congress.

    Amendment 1

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

It’s not Congress that wants to fire him.  It’s the American people he’s pissing off that want to fire him.

  6. Yes, there are many of us who want to fire him...when we’re being nice.  Certain other solutions to such a problem are not without a measure of appeal, after all.....  cool smirk
