Go Navy!

  1. Last year the Red Communist Chinese Maoists shot down one of their own defunct satellites, in order to show off,and to load up the low earth orbit belt with thousands of shards of space junk. And to trumpet their somewhat crude and inefficient space technology (most of which was stolen from us and the former USSR).

It seems reasonable that we send them a “message” that we can do it bigger and better....  And for a better reason, not allowing the possibility of sensitive intel gathering technology falling into the wrong hands (oops, Slick Willie and Jimmah Carter have already done that many times over) and to prevent the on-board fuel tanks, which are still filled with Hypergolic Hydrazine to come down and to earth and present their own unique hazards. HH is VERY nasty stuff....

    Go Navy!!!!!

  2. I gotta admit, the Navy does seem to be the best of the US services at a subtle, downbeat, kind of Teddy Roosevelt style of advertising. Shooting down a satellite… a month ago it was testing a rail gun that fires a slug up to 200 miles at mach 8. Never anything on the front page, just something back on page 8 that quietly says, “I wouldn’t if I were you. Here’s why.”
Just before I got out of the Navy I saw a story about the Tomahawk cruise missile in Navy Times featuring an interview with the guy in charge of designing the terrain following software. To this day I remember how he quietly, yet quite graphically, expressed the missile’s capabilities: “I could launch from New York and land it in Texas Stadium in Dallas, with ZERO chance of hitting anything in between. If you allowed me to launch from as close as Chicago, I could fly it between the goal posts.”
That was not classified info, that was in the freakin Navy Times..... in 1990. 18 years later, the Tomahawk is probably long since obsolete by now.

Damn, gotta love my shipmates. You go, guys.

  3. In an unrelated story:
The residence of Boise, Idaho woke up this morning to find that every citizen had been issued a hardhat. The Federal Government spokesman said “This has nothing to do with a possible satellite de-orbit”. He added “The good people of Boise have shown such faith and confidence in our country that we just wanted to find a way to say Thank You.”
