I may have gripes with democracy but to some extent a democracy does have (I am led to believe) checks and balances I don’t think I recognize in the EU.
Actually, no. Democracy is simply majority rule. No checks, no balances. That is why the American Founding Fathers eschewed a democracy for a representative Republic. Hence Benjamin Franklin’s reply to the lady who asked ‘what sort of government have you given us?’. ‘A Representative Republic, if you can keep it.’
You will look in vain for the word ‘democracy’ in the writings of most all American Presidents until the first-fascist President Woodrow Wilson. You never would have heard Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Madison, Lincoln, etc pontificating about ‘making the world safe for democracy’ before Wilson.
Democracy sucks. It is simply majority rule. No checks, no balances. A democracy ordered Socrates to drink hemlock.
Now America is under attack from the White House. Will we keep our Republic? Or will we let Obama become our Caesar?
We’re well on the way there, how many ‘czars’ has he appointed?
This smug commie scumbag http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/José_Manuel_Barroso is president of the European commission. However none of the citizens of Europe had the chance to vote for him. Ireland under it’s constitutional law will be voting (again) on whether or not to sign into law the Lisbon treaty. They got the wrong answer last time. The EU does not accept no. It is claimed that 80% of British law comes now from the EU commission so why do we bother voting for MPs to sit at Westminster? It will I believe all end in tears in the coming decade when people especially in Eastern Europe wake up and realise they exchanged one bunch of communist despots for another. In a few years time I trust Barrosso will go the same way as Ceausescu in a hail of lead.
Yep,They have succumbed just as the Fabian Society has hoped they would. It took hold one new rule and one new agency and 1000 cuts by 10,000 beauracrats at a time, All according to the plan. Its rather poetic in a sad sad very sad way.Adam Wieskoph was a piker compared to the Fabians.
