If the enviro-weenies had their way, we’d be living like cavemen.
I can’t remember the book: Bill Bryson- “Everything You Wanted to Know About Everything” (something like that) or Thomas Wolfe’s “Hooking Up”, but there was an extensive exposition on the oh-so-dangerous-global-environmental issues. The issues were thoroughly debunked, and nothing brought the stats home better than the comparisons of every environmentalist’s complaint than the comparisons made between now and the 1970’s.
Rubbish.
And why should you be concerned about roses? They don’t bloom on the cannabis plant.
What pisses me off about the environmentalists is that the vast majority of them want you to believe our technology is still stuck in the 1960s.
To which I reply, bullshit!
I’m speaking independent of any political persuasion on this issue: Just give me the facts. The facts indicate that we are 50%-70% LESS polluted now than in the seventies.
Cat - Looks like nature’s fauna is having something to do with pollution. What do you think should be done about those bears?
I have spent many months researhing up on many enviro issues and claims and what I have found again and again is that while I am thankful for some things they have helped bring about like emission contols and better logging practice’s most of Greenpeaces campaigns (and other groups) are based on outright lies and gross exaggerations of whatever resource or industry is in their sights. Things like DDT, Freon, chlorine, nuclear power, asbestos, alar, any and all chemicals no matter how useful or benefical, the fossil fuel economy etc, etc, etc which are in reality perfectly safe to use. (They’re real aim is to destroy our modern industial society and return us to an earlier simpler time) But of course they forget that that simpler time is full of open sewers, tons of horseshit on the city streets (daily), rampant hunger, epidemics, 26 year average life span, many wars, no medical facilies whatsover, no elecricity, no labor saving devices, etc, etc, etc. Their main problem is that they have lost their credibility completely by continually crying wolf and saying that the sky is falling for the last 30 years. The truth is that as far as I can tell there are no serious problems with the earth and we will continue to survive for thousands of years because technology and innovation always saves the day. Their problem is also a financial one because without some new “Crisis by press release” every month those donations and memberships start to disappear. Then they would have to get a real job and start producing something other than total lies and misinformation.
Paul,
You must have read the same literature I read.
Technology and innovation always saves the day.
"Been for a swim lately,” is it?
No, and neither have you.
As for self-proclaimed “environmentalists” in general, the best thing that most of them could do about pollution is to take a bath.
Temper temper, OCM. Nobody here has anything against the environment. It may have escaped your notice, but we all have to breathe the same air and drink the same water. Even if we do not happen to be whiling away the hours by playing at peasant in some rustic retreat, we are all still in this world of ours. And, for the record, I happen to be a staunch conservationist myself.
One should not, however, confuse the environment--or conservationism--with our latter-day “environmentalist” racket. Apart from the suckers who follow them like sheep, these people have no actual concern about the environment, and, for that matter, no particularly noteworthy knowledge of it. In my experience, their acquaintance with the earth sciences in general is rudimentary at best.
Their real interest is nothing more or less than power for themselves. They are merely raping the image of Mother Nature in order to pursue that power.
It so happens that issues of power among people are necessarily political issues, meaning left-right issues.
And it so happens that the “environmentalist” racket is no more, and was never any more, than a fig leaf for the far left throughout the world.
Thankfully that leaf is beginning to wear thin.
If you want rivers cleaned up, get these racketeers out of the way and turn the job over to people who have honest interests in doing the job.
These people do not.
Take note one and all: “Who are the racketeers,” indeed!
The article referenced for the basis of this thread, not to mention the entire thread itself, has been ENTIRELY about who the racketeers are! This is like going through a formal introduction and then turning around and asking, “What’s your name?”
Hopeless! The cannabis cobwebs are too thick.
I myself am also not against a clean enviroment because I recycle and greatly enjoy hiking in our mostly pristine Cascade Mountains east of Seattle in which I practice the No Impact philosophy while I am there. The reason I am upset with the enviro groups is because at least in my area the pollution war has been mostly won for some time. The car exhaust amount is a good example and if you go back to the 1960’s our cars now emit 99% less pollution. So even though there are far more cars on the roads the air these days is an order of magnitude cleaner than in the 1960’s But to the people in California even this is not enough and evey year the emmission standards get tighter adding cost and complexity to every car sold for a tiny additional benefit that is erased by one old car driving down the street. Now I have never been to the east coast and seen what their rivers are like but I can tell you that the rivers in the northwest are all very clean (if not pristine) and you could swim in any of them.
It is unseasonably cool in Texas today. We have been having a string of mild weather her over the last few years. First they thought we were headed for new ice age, now we are headed for global warming. God only knows, and he ain’t tellin’.
Paul, nice wheels!
Cat, I, too, am not against the environment. What a ludicrous thing to think. I spend hours with a group picking up trash on a five-mile stretch of road every few weeks. That is not fun, I can tell you. It is backbreaking, and at the end of the day, I end up not feeling good for having done something for the environment, I end up feeling such utter loathing for people, I almost can’t stand it. The rivers where I live - including the Potomac, once one of the most polluted,- are now pristine.
Environmentalists have their zealots, just like the pro-lifers: They burn entire lots of SUVs, and they come to DC for a rally and it costs the government a million dollars to clean up the mess after they leave. No sense in going on.... it’s the creeps we’re after here - not the environment.
Cat,
You won the game. We are all behind you.
And just for a nice end to this game, I got a penalty. I have a trestle that is ladened with a climbing rose. I have to cut it back constantly. I’ve been remiss of late in keeping up my yard, and last night a thorn nearly ripped my ear off. I noticed an abundance of pollen in my blood, too.
