  1. This is how we know the Mayans may be right about the “END” coming soon. One the one hand, a nation with a history of getting things done and righting the ship in a bad sea rolls over for deadbeats and parasites. On the other, a nation that is known to roll over at the slightest tug on it’s borders goes all “Idi Amin” on the same feckless bottom feeders. Maybe it is time to start digging out that bunker in the back yard. machinegun

  2. I preferred the Britain America fought in 1776. And again in 1812. Hell, they almost won that one. It was the last war a sitting President fought in.

How many of you knew that? President James Madison personally took command of an artillery emplacement after it’s commander was killed. He fought it long enough for the populace, including his wife Dolly, to get clear. Then they all ran like hell, DC was burned, and the Americans regrouped.

Those were the Brits I respected. Though I wouldn’t have minded if the peace treaty had a clause prohibiting the rebuilding of DC.

What I don’t like is that British are now wimpier than the French. And America is supposed to call them ‘Allies’? Hell, Maggie Thatcher barely held on to the Falklands. That was with Reagan’s help. Anyone really believe that Britian can keep their claim now?

  3. Chris,

pity they didn’t make such a balls up of New Orleans or you would still be “loyal subjects” Your analysis of the Falklands conflict is somewhat simplistic. The defence of the islands had been run down by the previous Labour administration and if you recall. Or you may not be aware. In 1978 the Labour government had to go cap in hand to the IMF for a loan. This is the same Labour government who had the steam catapults removed from Britain’s remaining carriers so they could no longer be used as aircraft carriers. The same scumbags who thought through deck cruisers were a substitute for a proper carrier. That was the Britain that Maggie inherited where defence had been run down for years.

The Argies took advantage of this as their economy was also in the crapper and it was a good way to divert attention. At the time that Britain retook the Falklands I happened to be living in the US and my colleagues who were ex US forces claimed it couldn’t be done. We didn’t have the 3:1 advantage they claimed was necessary to do the job. Undoubtedly without the help of the US and particularly Casper Weinberger the job would have been a lot more difficult, but the Parachute Regiment and the Royal Marines along with the Royal Navy got the job done. British politicians may be bed wetters but our forces man for man are a match for anything the US has.

The situation in the Falklands is somewhat different now. There are permanent anti-aircraft missiles and Typhoon fighters based there, plus a hunter killer nuclear sub patrolling in between. The Argies would get a bloody nose if they tried anything silly now. All Kirchner can do is cry to the UN and wave bits of paper at Cameron.

Now as for the actual story kicking out pikeys is all well and good, but they are “Europeans” now and the French may very well fly them back to Romania, but they will be back a week later most likely though they will pass through France to go to Britain where they wont need to camp out as our councils will give them free housing.

  4. One more problem that the New EU - richer, smarter, SMALLER - will solve. Kick out the pikeys and the pikey nations too. Leave them to be second class citizens; EU2.

  5. Lyndon:

Don’t forget, the Battle of New Orleans was fought AFTER the Treaty of Ghent was signed in December, 1814. The war had already been won by the American ‘colonists’. Generals Pakenham and Jackson didn’t get the news in time.

Now, I’ll grant you that Britain was probably distracted. Still trying to crush Napoleon. New Orleans was fought in January, 1815. Waterloo was fought in June, 1815.

Yeah, the Americans probably lucked out because some French still had enough ‘balls’ to seriously challenge the Brits. Not to mention that the Americans also had enough ‘balls.’ Britain couldn’t handle a ‘two-ball’ war. What I fear is that Britain cannot handle a third-rate country like Argentina. Add in the Islamic Sharia ‘law’ infiltration that peiper documents so well (suggestion to peiper–write a book based on your BMEWS posts)
