  1. Riiiight, OCM. As they say over at Protestwarrior: “War has never solved anything (except for ending slavery, fascism, Naziism, and communism).”

    cool smirk

  2. OCM, you can’t solve a problem in America (for instance) and expect it to be solved worldwide - that is what freedom is about. Perhaps if so many world leaders werent’t taking filthy lucre under the tables from both their allies and enemies - more of the world’s problems would be solved by now…

the love of money is the root of all evil.

Besides a good war requires industry, people, and MONEY - it does solve quite a lot of problems in addition to ending slavery, fascism, Naziism and communism [in certain places].

  4. You know the other point of the cartoon is great too. When is the media going to get ‘it.’ They are distorting, under reporting and just plain skewing the point - mainly to be against the President. That has it’s problems. One is reality, most of the soldiers (past and present) don’t see Iraq with the same position and concept that the media is presenting. It hurts, as a lot of people who would support the troops are being led astray by the wrong reporting.

Hiding behind the violence aspect is another dodge - my son was over there and said 1) that violence [blood feuds] are the way of life over there and have been going on for centuries -not of our doing. 2) Spots (especially Fallujah) have been sesspools for years, even under Saddam - again, not of our doing 3) the majority of the Iraqi people want us there and appreciate what we are doing, since he worked with the CPA, he actually got to meet real Iraqis - not at the end of gun.

The InterNet is going to destroy the media in the US, unless it changes to realize that your opinion is not the NEWS. And it certainly is not the way to report the news. Look at CBS to see exactly what destruction can happen if you cling to your own untruths. The rest had best start changing or NBC might be next to implode. Imagine a world without the big 3 bringing us news - and the NYTs is a joke of its former self - much more and it is less than bird cage necessity. Now the august halls of Harvard are under attack.

Opinion is great - just keep it that - your opinion. When you try to make it reality or shove it down others throats - expect to be shown the door or worse.

  8. Wars have settled many questions.  Just ask the city fathers of Carthage, the Imperial family of Japan, and survivors of the Italian Fascist Party and the NSDAP.

    I consider myself a pacifist, a heavily-armed pacifist.

  10. No, no. You’re right, OCM. America should have never fought the Civil War. We should have let slavery continue to the modern day. America should have never fought a war against the Third Reich. We should have just tolerated Hitler and looked the other way. America should have never fought a war against Imperial Japan. We should have surrendered our country to them immediately after the Pearl Harbor invasion.

You’re so right! War isn’t good for anything.

  11. The media, liberals in general and even some conservatives are putting personality before principle.

There are wars and then there are wars.  Viet Nam left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth.  The most important point about our current activities in Iraq is that if we don’t do it right, we’re shit.  We invaded and we are there.  Whether or not you agree with the reasons we invaded Iraq is irrelevant at this point.  We are working to rebuild the country in the face of vile animals who kill and destroy out of pure spite for differing beliefs.  The concept of cut and run or even setting a time table for withdrawl is sick and defeatist at best, traitorus at worst.  We have taken on a job and we must do it well, for the sake of the Iragis, for the American and coalition service men and women who have suffered and died and most importantly, for our honor.

  13. Jester I think you’re almost right but you shouldn’t have fought that pesky War of Independence you know you secretely hanker after a monarch!!

  14. #13 (Jester):  Very well said.

War is never pleasant, and always horrific.  That doesn’t change the fact that sometimes it is necessary.

The lyrics to “WAR” are an example of wishful thinking of the most dangerous type; willful ignorance of the fact that there are people and groups who are willing to inflict death, torture, and destruction upon your countrymen, and your society.  Throwing flowers, smoking dope, and singing Kum ba yah isn’t an effective defense.  If anything, it would demonstrate how unprepared, and how easy you’ll be to conquer and subjugate.

Not everyone has to take up arms in time of war, so there’s room for those who disagree with such efforts.  Those who choose to volunteer are a special breed who see value in risking their own lives (and sometimes giving them) in order that others of their family, their friends, and their country might live on.  May there always be enough of this rough breed of American to ensure victory.

  15. The quickest way of ending a war is to lose it.
    --George Orwell

I believe that Orwell also had a quote to the effect that the only reason we get to sleep safe and warm in our beds at night is because rough men stand ready to do violence on our behalf.

  16. So what would you have us do the next time the bad guys come knocking at our door, OCM? Ignore them? Surrender to them? Throw flowers, smoke dope, and sing Kum Bye Yah?
