Earthquakes: The Science And The Result

 

1. Their building standards leave a lot to be desired. When you compare other earthquake prone countries like the US and Japan. Modern building methods and materials have saved thousands of lives. Whilst I agree that the government of Pakistan and Iran should be doing all they can to alleviate this by following the West. It seems to me that they are more worried about taking a shortcut to join the nuclear club. Unfortunately most of these tin pot countries are also dictatorships. Musharraf may be relatively benign, but he’s still not a democratically elected leader and Iran? Don’t even get me started. I wonder how many of the mad mullahs will declare this a judgement of allah? The way they did following the Tsunami

2. I dunno about the sensors and the computer modeling, Skipper but I agree that the billons foolishly spent developing an Islamic Bomb would have gone a very long way toward up grading building standards. Would people even listen after a few false alarms? Even with a sophisticated seismic monitoring monitoring system along the San Andreas we can’t predict earthquakes with any certainty.
