Skipper the press here are saying that Blair’s announcement is not a “cut and run” but it obviously is. Support for our troops in Iraq has never been strong, and I think with the Democrats success in Congress and the Senate he feels it is time to get back into bed with the left. Blair is to the right of his party and has kept them past their sell by date, but the old reactionaries and loony left can smell blood now that he has announced he is quitting the job of Prime Minister. I think he wants to make the right moves for what he feels will be the US administration in two years time.
As for involving Iran. Yesterday four British soldiers were killed on the Shat el Arab waterway. I would not be at all surprised of the Iranians were involved. For me the best thing we could do would be to bomb Iran into the stone age. Get them before they get us. It might help focus their minds on the policy of supporting terror by proxy if a few hundred tons of high explosive took out their military.
