...B-h5+
K-g2...Q-e4+
And I think White is toast no matter what he does.
So after:
1. … Bh5+
2. Kg2 Qe4+
demonstrate how White is toast after 3. Kg1?
...BXe2
If
BXe2
then
RXe2
Where does he run?
If White refuses to take the Bishop, and plays R-c2, Q-f1 kills.
Looked at this yesterday for half an hour and could not solve it. Black is two pawns down so getting a draw might be the best solution. I can see how to pick a pawn but that might not be enough. Have not found a win for black yet. I will keep looking.
White has no immediate mate so black has a free move here provided he saves his queen. There is much to study.
After:
1. … Bh5+
2. Kg2 Qe4+
3. Kf2 black has problems also no?
Here’s the answer:
This is a tough one. Even Wes hasn’t posted after I emailed him a hint. Here’s the answer…
1. … Ra3! (decoying the Queen)
2. Qxa3 Be4+
3. Kf4 Bg2+
4. Kg5 Qxe5+
5. Kg4 Qf5+
6. Kh4 Qh3+
7. Kg5 Qh6+
8. Kg4 f5#
After the hint of the first move I didn’t want to be to fast in answering. I did solve the problem after the hint though. The move I saw to pick the pawn and secure a draw was
1. … Bh5+
2. Kg2 Qe4+
3. Kg2-g1 Bh5xe2 and black should hold and even has winning chances if white blunders.
The move Christopher gives is better but there are a lot of ways black can err and the win could take much longer. I got a new computer a week ago and installed Rykba which now runs four times faster than it did on my old one and it was fast then. Here is what Rykba thinks:
1. … Ra3! (decoying the Queen)
2. e2-e3 and black mates in about 19!
I saw e2-e3 but White then drops the Queen with Rxd3 and the e3 pawn is pinned. But that’s not how the game went. Black’s up at least a Queen, White should resign.
Oh, and Christopher didn’t give the move, the book did. I didn’t solve this either. I had to peek.
