  1. Yep, a drink sounds called for.

  2. Definitely a drink was in order BUT.
Drew ... I thought you had bought a newer car before you moved.  ????

  3. A newer car? Mwaaahahaahahahaha!!

    Um, no. Not true.

    Maybe someday.

    Maybe.

  4. You will get a new/ unused spare from a dismantler!

  5. Could be Chris ... I can’t even find where to buy a new one; none of these online tire stores have the spares listed. 115-70-14 I think? I had bigger tires on my CB700 motorcycle.

Only thing is, Saturn forums show that it is common for these spares to rot in the trunk. Might be safest to get a new one. Saw photos of several never used spares that had blown out exactly like mine.

Going to go with General AltiMAx HP for regular tire. No point putting top notch tires on this old bucket, and the Alti is at least as good as the Assurance Triple Tread I had on there.

  6. Hey at least you had a spare - my mom bought a brand new ‘Vistacruiser’ station wagon for our last (as a family) cross country summer vacay road trip. Let’s just say, it turned me off (for the first time, alas, it sadly would not be the last time) of GM vehicles. The tire went just outside a small Montana town of about two dozen - and big surprise NO SPARE. Someone followed us as we limped down the highway to the next exit to find a new tire, new tire and off again. Not for long - we weren’t down the road long when my mom realized she had left her damn poodle at the gas station. For some reason - my brother and the cat, got to avoid the trip from hell back to small town MT - at speeds in excess of 100 (MT had no speed limit - it was the ONLY time in my life, I’ve seen my mom go over 55 mph). Poodle still sitting by the door - and back again - the other way. (Did I mention we still aren’t out of MT, yet) and pick up the brother and cat and off again. To die along the highway in the mid-day sun. MT never really seems hot - but when you are stuck in the middle of no where in the mid-day sun with two kids and two animals - time stands still and it get’s hot. No one stopped (pre-cell phone days, heck most of MT still had party lines back then) and so by the time someone did stop (actually he saw us from the other side of the highway, went to the next exit and turned around to come back to us), jerry-rigged the hose that split and we went on our way to the next ‘big’ town to get it fixed. By the time we found a town big enough, it was after closing time. We holed up in a cowboy hotel - bar on ground floor, bathroom down the hall. And had food carried out of the bar to the lobby for my and my brother to eat (and for the cat and dog to eat too). Morning comes another fix job - on a brand new car. It should have been a dead give away to me - that GM sucked even back then.

  7. The thing that really bugs me about changing the tire is that the tire shops use those air wrenches that lock the lugnuts on so tight you need to be Superman to get them off. The cheap wrench that comes with most cars today is worthless. I bought one of those big 4-way lug wrenches from the local auto parts emporium. At least then you can jump on it if you need to. wink
