Don’t Look Back

  1. The lunatic left have to do this - 1) they are on the way out of ‘power’(i.e. aging rapidly)- take a look at advertising lately, it is either 20something meaningless drivel or 60/70s hippie making an difference drivel, 2) they perceive Vietnam as something different, it was the evil McCarthy/Repub rantings on communism that ‘forced’ Kennedy to go there (gee, where ever have we heard that ‘excuse’) and those nasty military killers lied to Johnson (who then escalated it) and then evil Nixon was going to make it an endless War. Except that the stellar ‘investigative’ journalist Walter Cronkite exposed the ‘truth’ and woke up all those ‘patriotic’ Americans who forced Nixon to ‘do the right thing’ and then those other stellar ‘investigative’ reporters (Woodward and Bernstein) exposed the ‘criminal’ Nixon and - walla the ‘patriotic’ Americans made America right again...and as a bonus they got to cut the miltary down a peg or two. The last two (taking down President Bush and the military) are their ultimate goals.

The other non comparison with this is that former President Carter probably with his turning on the Shah of Iran kicked off the chain of events that is the real backbone and cause of this current situation, escalated by his whimpy response to the hostage taking in Tehran plus the invasion of Iran by Iraq just paved the way to this current situation. And finally 8 years of former President Clinton’s ‘poll of the day’ running of the country, whimpy response to repeated terrorist attacks, and reluctance to respond to their own resolutions, UN and intell to do anything about the rising terrorist crisis culminated in 2001 with 9/11. In other words it was Dem policies that lead to this and Repub in Office when the attack took place that kicked this off. [which in itself is a non-comparison, as Vietnam did not attack us, terrorists did and Iraq invaded an ally].

But still the left clings to ‘cherry picked intell’, ‘Bush lied’, ‘illegal and immoral war’ yada, yada, blah, blah to undermine the War, yet they want to keep harking backward to a oppositionally different War as an equated situation that makes no sense nor is logical at all.

The final non-comparison is that there is no longer just the 3 alphabet networks, newspapers and radio controlled by the left. The end of the Fairness Doctrine and the InterNet now make the truth and reality exposed that was hidden and distorted in Vietnam era.

There is still Hope for America and Freedom.

  2. It’s depressing when people do not learn from their mistakes.  Now is the time that we should be fighting harder than ever before, both in Iraq and elsewhere.  Wardmama, you have fact and logic on your side.  I’m not sure that that is enough just now.

I’ve made no secret of my past politics, but I like to think that I’ve learned over the last 3 decades.  Why can’t others do the same?

  3. Because Dr. Jeff - unlike most who learn from their mistakes - the liberals don’t want to never, ever to have to admit:
    1) that they have accomplished nothing in life - not learned a thing about themselves or the World, not done anything meaningful in this life or for another person, nor even tried. . .
    2) that good intentions are never enough, never solved a single problem in the history of mankind and are just what paves the road to hell. . .
    3) that all the ‘social’ programs and idologies they believe in are proven failures, are the cause of millions of deaths, and proven to lead to political corruption and economic ruin the World (and History) over. . .
    4) that morals, discipline and War are not only not bad but actually accomplish more good in one generation than all their liberal beliefs and idologies have in the history of mankind. . .
    5) and finally growing old means you might have to - gasp - retire and that downer you are going to die.

And for people who don’t believe - death is the end, nothingness.

I would assume you, Dr. Jeff have accomplished at least one of the above or just bothered to stfu and listen to facts, debate and checked into reality once and liked it. . .

  4. No Mama, I’m a bit too mouthy to STFU, but I do listen, study and read a good bit.

Yes, I’ve also done a bit to help my fellow man - more than once.  Nights and weekends I’m a lay drug and alcohol counselor (very discouraging, if you only fail 90% of the time, you’re considered successful) and I used to teach at a trade school in East Los Angeles, where I taught First Quarter.  The hardest part was convincing my students that they could learn.  When I got them, they’d had 20 years of being told they were dumb Mexicans, so they shouldn’t try too hard, it wouldn’t do any good.  That’s the effect of Liberal double standards - bring them along with quotas, but don’t ever treat them as true, equal human beings.  I taught them the way I was taught in the 1950’s.  Math was with a pencil and paper - no calculators.  They understood pride and didn’t mind hard work.  Once they realized they could do everything the White Liberal Establishment told them they couldn’t do, they launched like rockets.  I’m particularly proud of what I accomplished with my students at the school.  Interestingly, dealing first hand with the effect of liberalism on my students actually began my final split with the left.

Don’t laugh too much, but much of the foundation of my political beliefs going back 4 decades and more involved a belief in my fellow Americans ala John Kennedy, with a few dabs of Martin Luther King (his “Dream” speech still makes me a bit misty eyed), Bobby Kennedy and Malcom X thrown in.  Way back then the accent was on help, not handouts.  Equal meant equal and liberal meant liberal.  Much different from the cult of victimhood, Class warfare derived from reverse bigotry, entitlements and the degradation it all seems to bring.  As controversial as he is, Malcom X is an interesting study in a man being open to the world around him, learning, listening to God as he understands God, growing and reinventing himself.  Had he not been assassinated by the order of Elijah Mohammed (my best understanding), I think his place in U.S. history would have been much different.  Rather than a dissonant footnote to the Civil Rights Movement, I think his role would have been much more prominent and very positive.

Ultimately the strange part is that at the end of decades being considered a lefty, I actually find that I have much more in common with people who are considered conservatives than I do with the current generation of liberals.  I find the current crop of “conservatives” are much more broad minded, care for history (If you don’t learn from it, you’ve got a problem), understand that all 10 items of the Bill of Rights are important, honestly care for their fellow man and are willing to debate a topic without resorting to name calling and threats.  My kind of people.
