  1. I do hope booker was being ironic or discrete because too many people know of this hoax for the met office to be in the dark, no this is 1984 style (or maybe TG’s Brazil) dis-information, I expect there are allready people who talk about the warm summer last year only due to the deliberately erronius forcastes that, as Obama is doing, repeat the lie often enough it become accepted as true.
When they erase MY memory (London UK usualy some snow in winter, lots of frost and decent summers, BTW where is 1976 in the offficial stats? F’in liers) and the new ice agers from the 1970s then I will believe them, not before.

  2. I was just getting into the hoarding mode - when damn it all - Sam’s Club went eco on us and we can’t get the jumbo pack of light bulbs any more. Oh bother - so every other shop trip I throw the biggest package said store (I very my shopping experience - as I’m in a cooking mood of late) - so we have the 1 jumbo package (I think it is 8 or 10 four packs) from Sam’s and probably about 6 of the smaller 4-8 packs.

We bought a couple of more of the newer eco bulbs - once again - utterly worthless for the price. We now have three of those mercury gems sitting out on the workbench to be ‘disposed of’ - didn’t last 6 months much less ‘years longer’. More bs from on high from the likes of the Goracle.

You know what they’ve always said about computers - Garbage in, garbage out. Sort of fits here.

  3. I hate those CF bulbs… the color balance is all wrong. Same with LEDs, if they suddenly became affordable… they’re just too blue for my tastes, as well as not having a smooth bell-shaped spectrum like an incandescent lamp.
I got a desklamp at a garage sale that used an appliance style lamp… wouldn’t have bothered if I knew how expensive they were… anyway, last time it burned out, i looked at the bulb an could see the ends of the filament hanging. So I turned the bulb around till they touched, applied power and welded the ends together. Try that with a CF bulb!

  4. Jim:- good strategy, I remember my grandparents doing that in the 50s-before the pearl bulbs were invented (perhaps the reason they were introduced?) as for the dumb CFL bs, they do last long IF you do not turn them on and off???? they also use more power than regular bulbs if you do this, what a crock of shite! I only have them where a background light is on at dark and off at bedtime (how about the nightlights? they have a incadescent 5w lamp?? I bet they are still on sale (5 watts X12 hours is the same as a 100 watt lamp for about 40 mins) Accoring to the UK Which consumer mag a few years back in the real world (not where the A Gore asshole is) the best and cheapest option long run is mains voltage halogen lamps on dimmer switches, second was low volt halogen on dimmers.
As all global warming/ecology issues the loudest liars get the cigar (like catalitic converters, great turn the fairly harmless CO into the scary CO2 in larger quantities, was it part of the control-freak plan?)

  5. Chris: It was a short-lived fix. I noticed the bulb ran hotter, and it burned out for good a few days later. It just surprised me that the stunt worked at all. wink

The thing that bothers me about the eco-nuts, indeed with most activist groups is that they don’t understand the concept of diminishing returns. Today’s gas (petrol wink ) powered cars are cleaner running than a 60’s era car standing still with the engine off. So we really don’t need the greenies pushing for expensive mandates that produce little or no (even negative) environmental improvement. I’ve seen good arguments that the Hummer is a greener choice that the Prius over the long term.
