  1. Im gonna say this with a straight face. I would rather a bunch of private capitalists fight over cleaning up their shit than have ANY government use a gun and a beauracrat to do it.
It always comes to this and every day we fight as to WHO gets to decide. I always want to side with NOT GOVERNMENT when possible.
Other than that I fully agree Drew,Nice work.

  3. And who, pray tell, are going to pay for 60,000 ships to be upgraded?
It costs a hell of a lot to get upgrades on a ship, from a quick repaint, down to new stoves in the galley take a while. Mechanical upgrades more so. They aren’t talking a replacement of the ship’s bunks here, they are talking major engine work. If a pair of cats for a small ship cost a million not including lost time, how much to replace the engines which usually takes a hole cut in the hull? How much to train engineers and mechanics on the new systems?
Ports rely too much on what goes in and out of them to be able to restrict themselves by limiting the type of ships they allow. Their stockholders/owners would scream bloody murder at the cash loss, not “I can afford losing $100,000 this month because I saved the planet by sending all of those naughty smokey ships to another port!” Not to mention the services at the ports such as stevedores and ship’s service companies.

They ought to look at things like this in advance instead of trying for the corporate blackmail thing. Work on getting new ships clean and as they are replaced, the world will get a bit better.
    Just a thought..

  5. Well Rich, I think the last Russian one is now a hotel and casino in Hong Kong. Maybe we could buy it and turn it into a giant skateboard park? Think of the air moves you could do going off that jump in the bow there!
