  1. Trying to over-ride the natural drives in people is foolish, and possibly dangerous.  You’ll end up with frustrated, angry children who are that way and don’t know WHY.

    This won’t end well.

Ronald Reagan:  “… and the more the plans fail, the more the planners plan.”

River Tam (Serenity):  “People don’t like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think. Don’t run, don’t walk. We’re in their homes and in their heads and we haven’t the right. We’re meddlesome.”

  2. Tiger ... VERY good and thanks. btw ... it gets even worse in another area I haven’t posted yet as I ran outta time today.  Had to go out and only just back and it’s late. But to give you an idea.  Some busy body do gooder in govt. (where else?) wants makers of jam to reduce the sugar content on the entire line. all brands, as there is an overweight problem here , they say. And that isn’t all. Sure thing. Ruin the taste so nobody buys the stuff.
Also ... serious move on to reduce the sugar in regular Coke.  Like they don’t already make a sugar free version, that I won’t touch. Not that I’m huge on Coke over here. Not like stateside so I don’t buy anyway. But wife buys Zero Coke in the summer. But that isn’t enuff for the meddlesome crew.
The EU is going to issue new rules on how powerful your vacuum cleaner should be and manufacturers may have to reduce the power by I think 2020. That’s part of reducing electric use and carbon footprints to save the planet.
    And that isn’t all.
My bet is you are not surprised. Neither were we when we read all that and more.

  3. Not even a little surprised, Peiper.

    Another quotation from Firefly:

Mal: That’s what governments are for… get in a man’s way.

    He nails it, too.

If you haven’t seen it, watch Terry Gilliam’s movie from 1985, Brazil.  Amazon.co.uk has the DVD for under 5 pounds, and the Blu-Ray for under 7 pounds.

Make special note of the renegade air conditioner repairman, and think about that as a commentary about where we’re going to need to head in our lives to survive.  It sure as hell isn’t Government that’s going to save the day.

It’s beyond trying to fix government from within; not possible.  Try to work outside/around them whenever possible.  It’s a fairly sane response.
