  2. One more thing, The day the Pope goes to Riyadh and kisses the ring of King Abdullah and confabs as to how to make peace among the Christians,Muslims and Jews is the day I say grace at Xmas.
And thats never gonna happen either.

  3. The pope has some nerve. Being the head of a church that instigated the Inquisition, invented the auto-da-fe, tortured and burned people at the stake for being ‘heretics’ and/or ‘Jews’, he’s got some nerve telling us that the death penalty is wrong. (oh dear, I almost forgot witches, but the Protestants did that too.) Last time I checked my Bible (last year, I’m doing the Book of Mormon this year) the death penalty is Scriptural. I have the Catholic Bible (New Jerusalem version) and the death penalty is still in there.

I like some of the stuff Pope Francis is doing, but not this. The death penalty is about justice. You took a life, you give your own. It is not about deterence. Humane? Personally I’m for hanging or firing squad (the only two choices in Utah, last time I lived there). Guillotine might be quick and humane.

  4. I don’t think the very far past when not just the Catholic religion but in a day and world where Christains couldn’t decide and agree on just who or what was a better Christain or the correct one, led to death of a horrid nature.

while I do not in any way agree with the thinking of the pope, I woudn’t say the inguisition should play a part on his right to a present day dumb decision. The two aren’t connected surely.

  7. Kenneth McDuff - to me is the poster child of why the death penalty should be carried out, much more frequently than it is in America.

Imprisoned for life in 1966 for killing 3 people - but if any one of his 12 4 year sentences were at least served fully from a 1964 crime - he would not have been out to commit this crime.

He was released (even though he had been on Death Row) in 1989. He killed 4 more women between then and his capture in 1992. At least this time - it only took 6 years to execute him.

Life in Prison should mean life. The Death Penalty should mean execution.

And yes, grayjohn the Pope is out of touch and to liberal for me.

It use to be about the Rule of Law - since when has anyone - most importantly a religious Leader - promoted the ignoring of laws?

Yes, I know, I’m misremembering the past. Or I misspoke. Or something.
