Do The Hustle!

What a con LA fell for. Glad somebody was keeping on eye on this thug.

  1. The sad part is that if you called him a gangbangin thief and made any reference to his ethnicity you’d probably get more time than he did. Conspiracy to commit mass murder by marketing machine guns isn’t a “hate crime.”
Oops. Unless of course it turns out he’s a white guy, then it’s okay to call him whatever you want.

  2. On second thought, the fact that enlisting a gang member who calls himself “Big Weasel” to control gang violence turned out to be nothing but a swindle qualifies as NEWS… that may be sadder still.

Please excuse me, I’ll manage to properly show my sympathy for the tragedy of LA.... as soon as I can manage to stop howling with laughter.

  3. Now, here’s a question. Despite the L.A. ludicrosity, what about the FEDERAL sentencing requirements. NFA violations have got to be worth about, oh, 200 years or so here. Now, if we do away with the NFA…

  4. Just as a point of order, there are no such things as ‘assault weapons’ unless you are referring to whatever it is the politicians don’t want us commoners to have this week.

An assault weapon is different from any other weapon in exactly the same way a painted up hussy differs from a lady with makeup.

  5. Actually there are Archie. A genuine assault weapon is a magazine fed rifle that is chambered for a moderately powered rifle cartridge and has the ability to fire in full auto mode.

So a tommy gun is not an assault weapon: it’s full auto, but fires a pistol cartridge. It’s a submachinegun, which is still a machine gun. Same goes for a full auto MAC-10 or any other machine pistol.

A genuine BAR is not an assault weapon: it’s full auto, but fires a “high powered” rifle cartridge (even though it grinds my teeth to say such a phrase). Actually I think some BARs had selectable fire? Not 100% on that one, but they usually go in the SAW category, which are, again, machine guns by definition.

A plain old AR15 is not an assault weapon: even though it fires a moderately powered rifle cartridge it’s only a semi-auto. Same goes for a semi-auto AK47. But if you swap some parts, or do some welding and milling, you can turn them into automatic weapons. It isn’t easy, but it apparently is possible. That’s what this fellow did I gather.

An M16 or an AK47 with select fire capability is an assault weapon.

Any crew served machine gun isn’t an assault weapon either.

I don’t make the definitions, I just use them. Well, the right ones at any rate.

Possession of any fully automatic firearm, without the proper Class III permits, can put you in a world of hurt, even if the gun has become full auto accidently through parts wear. Even if you “accidently” have that famous bit of string looped around between the bolt handle and the trigger.

  6. Automatic weapons AND suppressors are tightly controlled by law. SEMI-automatic rifles are only that, and fake cans are only cosmetic additions.

  7. Typical Looney liberal, says one thing, does another. Did he give lessons to Al Gore?
I agree with Archie on this. Many NATO countries use the FNFAL. It is an assault weapon. It is chambered in a high power cartridge. The true meaning for assault weapon should always be the military term. A rifle that is relatively small, light weight, easy to disassemble clean and assemble, capable of a high rate of fire. They have a definite purpose. No one in their right mind would want to storm a beach using muzzle loaders.
I’ve got a closet full of em. An AK-47, an SKS several AR-15s and my favorite, an M1A (M-14 not Garrand).

  8. AH! The FN/FAL, is indeed a very sweet piece. But it IS a “battle rifle” NOT an “assault rifle”, by strict definition.

  9. This may be a sticky point, but there are 2 military weapons I know of that were both named Strumgewehr (assault weapon).  One was introduced by Germany during WW2 and the other by the Swiss in 1957.  While the German weapon used a “moderately” powered cartridge, the Swiss version used the same “full” powered cartridge as the 7.5MM Schmidt Rubin.  If I understand the mess correctly, these were names applied to specific models, rather than an attempt to define a class of weapons.

Just to confuse the issue a little party

Actually the biggest problem I have with most of the stuff we’re talking about here is that I don’t have all of them in my collection.  Sigh.  Oh yeah, and that the government doesn’t want private individuals owning them.
