Disgusting.  Disturbing.  Sick.  Perverted.

  1. That was pretty much my take on it too, though I note that the only sanctioned form of capital punishment in Texas is lethal injection.  Too bad… There are some offenses for which that, firing squad, hanging, or electrocution are too damned humane.

How about death by “draw and quartering”?  Seems appropriate given how she murdered her 11 month old daughter.

In fact, there’s something resonating with me that a convicted murderer’s death sentence should be carried out in the same manner as the victim(s) they killed.  I’m not going to get my wish, but I can dream.

  2. I DID have postpartum depression-bad. I’m lucky that my parents and my now ex took control of the situation before...I don’t even want to think what could have happened.
That’s not an excuse . I can remember my situation pretty clearly. My point: That woman may have been going through PPD-but she still knew right from wrong .
The capital murder charge is totally appropriate!

  3. Didn’t the last Texas mother who ‘suffered post-partum’ whatever kill all FIVE of her children? Didn’t she actually chase several of them down and drown them?

Annoying Little Twerp hits on the real problem in the first line… I DID have postpartum depression-bad. I’m lucky that my parents and my now ex took control of the situation before...

The code words are now ex. Marital problems? Yep. We can strike back through the kids…

  4. I wasn’t “striking out” at Alex to get at my then husband. I remember feeling horribly depressed within HOURS of Al’s birth.
When you add that to the fact that I came out of an abusive household and that I had an eating disorder at the time-I was an accident waiting to happen! Luckily, the “big” accident didn’t happen.
My ex and I divorced for TOTALLY unrelated reasons 4 years later. We’re good friends now and our son is doing well!
Sorry, but Christopher’s last line has rubbed me the wrong way.
I was a VERY screwed-up young woman who was no more ready to be a mom than to pilot the space shuttle. An evil “woman scorned “ I was NOT!! Barb

  5. I apologize to the Annoying Little Twerp.

    My point was more generic.

I don’t know personally, only through step-children giving birth to step-grandchildren…

This has happened three times before to my family… and two have survived. I’ve not heard of any ‘post-partum’ from the mothers. No one in my family or my wife’s family ever suffered ‘PPD’.

(My third ‘step-grandchild’ was stillborn… I never want to go through that again, nor do I want my step-son or his ex-wife to go through that again. But they did place the stillborn child to her breast… guess the docs wanted to show that he was stillborn. We have pics. Even I cry over those two pics...)

We are awaiting the birth of our ‘fouth’ grandchild… Due in Jan ‘05.

Wife is planning on being a major baby-sitter… I’m telling her… this house is NOT safe for children. I was a child… I know what a child can break....or stick his finger into…
