3. OCM a peerage means a “Lordship” so that you can wear a silly cloak trimmed with weasel fur. You can also have yourself a title like Lord Buttplug of Lard etc.

   Not that this thing is new you understand, Lloyd George (who incidentally knew my father) sold them off at around £15,000 if memory serves. Nowadays the going rate is more like £1.5 million. Such is inflation. So it was ever thus, but what sticks in peoples craw is that Blair and Co. came to power with a holier than thou approach on sleaze, and now it has been shown they are every bit as sleazy as the previous government.

   The good news though is that it may finally sound a death knell to the socialists. For years they were bankrolled by the unions (like the Dems in the US) but union membership declined massively under Thatcher so this source is less lucrative. On top of that some of the unions have turned off the tap because Labour hasn’t been socialist enough for them! So they have been going cap in hand to the likes of millionaires like Bernie Ecclestone and the anti hunting lobby groups etc. Of course these donors expect something in return like a ban on fox hunting or a nice little knighthood.
