Here’s a scholarly paper for those wondering if this really works. I had my doubts too - how can somebody survive or avoid brain damage with no oxygen? Maybe this method really only works now that everyone has a cellphone and 911 (or 999 for the UK) implies that an ambulance is just minutes away. I don’t know ... I haven’t read the whole paper.
Dang it, coffee on the monitor, again.
My question, too, is about oxygenation. The pump hard and fast idea is good to keep blood moving, but it needs O2 somehow. Perhaps the pumping action also creates enough respiration to bring air into the lungs, but not if there is something blocking the airway. In this situation, I’d have to check and clear the airway. Everything else seems good.
