  1. I kinda feel bad for the people in the panhandle still working on recovery from Ivan.. but on a bit of a selfish note im glad it has continued to stay west of having much effect other then rain over here in North Central Florida.. it could’ve kept on going west and hit texas or something though… the forecast with it’s track looking a bit like Ivan’s is a bit troubling.. wonder if Dennis will do a loopdeloop and reform again Ala Ivan? we shall see i guess?

  3. Just talked to my dad…

Remember me mentioning my sis, her hubby and my niece had been visiting family in KY for the past two weeks?

They left this morning to make the long drive home to St. Pete…

I’m no hurricane expert by any stretch of the imagination but I’m a bit scared for them on this drive....anyone care to help talk me down?

(I haven’t talked to Mom yet but Dad was NOT a happy camper about them leaving...)

  4. Probaly be ok from kentucky to st pete.. just a lot of rain.. if they left this morning they should miss the real bad Weather though..... I’d rather stay put then be on the roads though.. but southbound would be a little better then northbound most likely..(In terms of traffic..)

Posted by Infinity    United States   07/09/2005  at  07:25 PM

  5. Relax, Severa. Look at it this way. All the traffic will be coming in the opposite direction in which they’re driving. Smooth crusin’ all the way home.

Dennis will probably miss St. Pete. It’s headed for Mobile.

    Relax.

    Take deep breaths.

Repeat after me .... all is well, all is well, all is well, all is well ....

    cool smile

  6. *L* Yeah I’m prolly not as worried as my parents are right now…
but I’m wondering if things will be calm enough for them to cross the bridge into St Pete....

  7. Just looked at the 7pm Forecast and he’s now back to category 3 and expected to be a category 4 by the time he hits around the panhandle.. not good.. look for lots of secondary damage especially since with all the hurricanes and delays in being able to get repairs there are still damages by Ivan that have not been able to be repaired..

  8. Severa,

Maybe they’ll hold up in a hotel for a day or two until it blows over.  They might even miss the rush of rain depending on how far they got today.  My sister left St. Louis today to head for North Carolina.  hmmm.  It will just be lots of rain.  The winds will have died down.  I hope.

  9. Phoenix - Did I mention my niece is 6? *L* So I’m not sure how far they’ll make it today…

  10. Skipper, on the Weather Channel awhile ago they were showing USS Alabama at her berth and commenting on how she would ride out the hurricane, and I thought of you.  She’s a fine ship.  I’m glad that both our states got their namesake battleships to serve as memorials for the many fine folks they sent to WWII.

    wink

  11. I hate to say it amidst the (understandable) nervousness expressed above, but Missouri could use the rain.

Posted by Cheese_tensor    United States   07/09/2005  at  09:13 PM

  12. Cheese_tensor -

Yes, my home state of KY could use the rain too. My dad told me today the grass looks horrible and the ground is starting to crack in spots. He’s hoping the remnants of Dennis give them some much needed rain as he says it’s been almost 5 weeks without rain now…

Posted by Severa    United States   07/09/2005  at  09:16 PM

  13. Sev,

Yep. Clouds & Silver Linings, etc. The rain will be good. I’m sure your loved ones will be extra cautious on the road home and things will be just fine.

  14. Don’t worry too much, Severa. They won’t let them into the area if the hurricane is expected. When they start evacuating they make all the roads and highways one way...away from the area. If there’s going to be a problem they’ll have to hole up before the danger area.

  15. The belly of the U.S. gets a blow job and all I read is complaints.

Let me tell you something, I’ll be dealing with the sticky, humid, rain from Dennis most of next week. It’ll be the type of weather my wife uses to seal up the house and turn on the A/C.

  16. My sister and her family evacuated to somewhere in Georgia. That’s all I know for now. More details to follow. Her house is located in Navarre, FL...right in the area near NAS Pensacola, Eglin AFB, and Hurlburt Field, right where Ivan hit LAST year! I’m praying their house can stand up to Dennis like it weathered Ivan with NO major damage!

  17. A lot of people along the Gulf Coast still haven’t rebuilt from the wrath of Ivan. And those that have could be faced with destruction again.  Mother Nature can be so cruel at times.......
